Traditionally, Labour Day was an occasion to campaign for and celebrate workers' rights during parades and picnics organized by trade unions. For teenagers and other students, the Labour Day weekend is the last chance to celebrate with a party or to go on a trip before school re-opens for the new academic year. Canadian football fans may spend a large proportion of the weekend watching the Labour Day Classic matches live or on television. You may view the items up for aucon on the 7th floor. 5. The Suomi-Talo Seniors are going on a Grand River boat cruise and have invited Suomi- Ko tenants and members to join them. Toronton Suomi-Kodilla tapahtuu syksyllä 2016! Näin kesän jälkeen alkavat ohjelmat taas pyöriä meillä Toronton Suomi-Kodissa. Ohjelmatarjonta tulee olemaan runsas! Osa ohjelmista alkaa jo he syyskuun alussa, mu%a suurin osa ohjelmista ja kursseista alkavat puolenvälin paikkeilla ja lokakuussa. Viiko%aisia ohjelmia Suomi-Kodilla ovat Lukupiiri, (ma ) Bingo (. kello10:00) Käsityökerho (alkaa syyskuun 7 pvn., kello 14:00-), Seura-peli-ilta (ke 18:00). Line-dancing (rivitanssi) ja piirileikki (alkaa torstaisin kello 11:00). Kävelykerho jatkuu lauantaisin kello 09:00. Muista ohjelmista voi%e seurata ilmoitustaulua esim. yhteislaulu, ryhmäkeskustelu ja elokuvaillat/iltapäivät. Viiko%aisiin ohjelmiin kuuluvat myös liikuntakurssit- voimistelu, kevytvoimistelu, osteovoimistelu ja vesivoimistelu. Liikuntakurseille ilmoi%autumisia otetaan edellen vastaan. Voimistelukurssit istaisin ja torstaisin ovat ilmaisia Suomi-Kodin asukkaille. Kerran kuussa juhlimme täällä Suomi-Kodilla syntymäpäiväjuhlia. Suomi-Kodin naisjaosto ja Majavat järjestävät syyspihamyyjäiset laulantaina 24 päivänä kello 10:00-13:00. Myyjäisissä on tarjolla Suomi-Kodin naisten käsitöitä ja hyviä vanhoja tavaroita. Kahvi ja pulla varmaan maistuu ja grillimestari Seppo grillaa meille maukkaita makkaroita. Joulun alla joulukuun 10 päivänä on edossa joulumyyjäiset. Hengellisen/henkisen ohjelman anin kuuluvat viiko%ainen raamatunluku ( kello 14:30), raamatuntutkistelu (ke 09:30 alkaa syyskuun 14pvn.) ja perjantaihartaus (suomalaisseurakunnat vuoroviikoin klo.10:30). Joka kuukauden kolmantena sunnuntai-iltana kello18:00 Agricolan seurakunta pitää ehtoollisjumalanpalveluksen Suomi-Kodin juhlasalissa. Joka kuukauden viimeisen sunnuntai-illan hengellisestä ohjelmasta vastaa Saalem seurakunta. Suomalainen Laestadilainen kirkko pitää kerran kuussa lauantaiaamuisin kello 10:30 hartauden. St. Peter s eesläinen seurakunta pitää kerran kuussa sunnuntai-iltapäivänä jumalanpalveluksen sekä St. Andrew s eesläinen seurakunta. Syksyn aikana järjestämme myös erilaisia retkiä, esim..ruska/karpaloretki, tea%eriretki ja jouluvaloretki. Tiedot tulevista erikoisohjelmista saa%e seuraamalla ilmoitustaulua ja Ko-Posa! Kaikkiin tapahtumiin otamme mielellämme vastaan vapaaehtoisia, ohjelmanjärjestelyapua sekä ohjelmatarjontaa. Iloista syksyn alkua teille kaikille! 6
This Fall at Suomi-Ko&! What a great summer we have had and now we can look forward to the new fall season ahead! The days will be crisper and cooler and Suomi-Ko will be abuzz again with a lot of acvity. Much of the programming will begin right aker the Labour Day weekend and some later in the month. Weekly acvies include Reading Club in Finnish on Monday s at 4:00 pm, Bingo on Tuesdays at 10:00 am, Games Night, Wednesday at 6:00 pm, Line Dancing on Thursdays at 11:00 am and Walking group on Saturdays at 9:00 am. Please check the bullen boards for other acvies such as sing-alongs, discussion groups, movie akernoons and evenings. Fitness, Osteofitness and Aqaufitness courses are offered through out the week for a fee. You may register in the office. Exercise classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are offered to Suomi-Ko tenants at no cost. Once a month we celebrate Suomi-Ko tenants and residents birthdays. The Suomi-Ko Women s Auxiliary and Majavat are organizing a Yard Sale to be held on Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 am 1:00 pm. There will be hand knit items and a lot of good used items for sale. The coffee pot will be hot and we ll have fresh pulla available to have with your coffee. Our Master BBQ chef, Seppo will grill up delicious sausages! Be sure to tell your family and friends. The Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, December 10th. There are several congregaons offering church services and devoons here at Suomi-Ko including Agricola, Saalem, Laestadian, St. Peter s Estonian and St. Andrew s Estonian. Bible studies are offered in Finnish and hopefully, we ll be able to offer an English Bible study in the near future if there is interest. Also planned for the fall are a few trips including a fall colour/cranberry trip, theatre and a Christmas light trip. We will have all the details in future Ko Pos publicaons as well as on the bullen boards. Volunteers are welcome to help with program planning, leading the programs and helping out. Juha welcomed everybody to the August Tenants Meeng and apologized to the tenants for the water issues which have caused there to be no hot water in the sauna, laundry room and kitchen. The hot water tanks located in the B1 pool room have now been replaced. 2. There have been many inquiries about the building addion process as nothing has happened in the past while. Unl the Laird Eglinton LRT staon is completed which may take 3-4 years to become reality, a building permit cannot be issued. Plans however are sll being developed and funding is being arranged. Toronto Central LHIN is pleased that we are staying in the area as many Long-Term Care facilies have opted to move to locaons outside of the central area. 3. The MetroLinx boring machines and tunneling have now reached Yonge Street and transportaon noise will mainly be limited to the hours between 7:00am 5:00 pm. 4. Maarit menoned up-coming events and encouraged tenants to parcipate in the St. Jacobs Farmer s Market and Mennonite Visitor Centre and Museum trip up-coming on Tuesday, August 23 rd. So far there are only a few names signed up to go. 5. Q What is Happening on Saturday, August 20th? A Secons of Eglinton Avenue around Laird Drive will be closed all day between 4:00 am and 10:00 pm. Both the road and sidewalks will be closed. Busses will be diverted and TTC stops may be temporarily relocated. 6. The tenant s meeng ended and was followed directly by the EPC Advisory meeng. Most if not all the regular acvies will resume in September. They were reviewed and clarified. The hope is to start some new acvies over the course of the fall to enhance the current programming and to provide some much desired programming over the weekends. Hän pyysi anteeksi meneillään olevia vesitankkisysteemin aiheu%amia ongelmia. Ei ollut kuumaa ve%ä saatavilla saunassa, kei=össä eikä myöskään pesulassa. Kuumavesitankit on nyt vaihde%u uusiin B1:ssä. 2. On esite%y monia edusteluja Suomi-Kodin rakennuksen laajentamisesta, koska mitään uu%a ei ole tapahtunut vähään aikaan. Kunnes Laird Eglinton LRS asema on valmis, minkä toteu%aminen voi viedä 3 4 vuo%a, rakennuslupaa ei voida antaa. Suunnitelmia kuitenkin kehitellään ja rahoitusta järjestetään. Asukkaiden kokousta seurasi EPC:n ohjelmaneuvosto. Melkein kaikki tutut ohjelmat tulevat edelleen alkamaan syyskuussa. Niistä keskustelin ja ohjelmat hyväksy=in. Haluamme järjestää uusia mielenkiintoisia ohjelmia syksyn alkaessa erikoises viikonloppujen iloksi. Maarit toivo= kaikkia asukkaita kertomaan ajatuksistaan ja toiveistaan ohjelmien suhteen. Hän kii= kaikkia vapaaehtoisia, jotka ovat vetäneet ohjelmia kesän aikana ja nyt odotetaan akivista ja kiireistä syksyä täällä Suomi-Kodilla! Lisää etoja ohjelmista tulee olemaan syyskuun Ko-Posssa.
