North Ostrobothnia basic statistical data Population: 403 000 inhabitants 60 % of inhabitants live in sub-region Oulu centralization continues in the future if demographic trends become true Annual demographic net growth is about 3000 persons (based on high rate of births and increasing net immigration) Over 70 % of people (over 15 years) has a degree and the share is growing The population structure is one of the best in Finland: - Population at working age is declining only a few thousands years to follow - 34 percents of population is under 25 years old (29 % in whole country)

Strong branches of economic activity in North Ostrobothnia - ICT: going structural change from technical to content orientated innovations - Metal industry and manufacturing: global special expertice in steel technology - Wood industry and processing: wood is also an essential and potential resource in many sectors (for example energy). - Tourism: Oulu, Ruka, Syöte, Kalajoki and Rokua are the five significant tourism centers in the region.
Labour Force in North Ostrobothnia Labour force: 186 000 persons employed: 160 000 persons 25 000 unemployed (on average) per month in year 2013. The global recession has downsized activity on export-orientated business and this has raised the unemployment rate in North Ostrobothnia. Also the restructuring and loss of jobs in ICT-sector has released lot of experts into labour market during the last years. At the moment (March 2014) the unemployment rate is 14,2 % (12,0 % in whole Finland). The Worst situation is in Oulu area and in the north part of region. Need for new jobs, more competent personnel and wide range of new skills
