2017 Efficacy evaluation of fungicides against net blotch in spring barley - Advisory fungicide trial SUMMARY The trial was located in Jokioinen in Kuuma. The cultivar in the trial was Voitto which is quite susceptible to net blotch. Previous crop was oat. The barley was drilled on 29 th of May. Weather during the season differed from the long term average summer. May was dry until the end of the month when there were the first rainy days. May was also quite cold even before sowing the trials there was a warm period. In June it rained 101 mm which is almost 40 mm over the 1981 2010 long term average. The mean temperature was 12.8 C which is also lower to the 14 C average. In July it rained 44.7 mm which is 30 mm below the average, but the mean temperature was 14.9 C which is 1.8 C below the average. It meant that the soil and also crop stayed wet for long periods. August was again a bit rainier and colder than the long term average. September was then quite normal and it rained a bit less. The effective temperature sum stayed whole summer 70 150 C below the long term average. At the end of September the temperature sum was 1136 while the average is 1269. The beginning of the growth was really slow and barley also suffered from too wet soil because of some heavy rains. After that crop stand was good and dense. All fungicide treatments were done on 7 th of July. The growth stage was BBCH 37 and flag leaves were visible, but not yet open. At application time there was net blotch (Pyrenophora teres) only around 3 % in the fourth leaf. The first disease assessment was done two weeks after the treatment at BBCH 69. The net blotch severity was 11 % in the untreated control and the severity was significantly lower with all treatments, around 1 2 %. There was no phytotoxicity with any of the treatments. Four weeks after treatments net blotch development was fast, because the conditions were favorable. Disease severity in the untreated control was already 86 %. In Proline treatment net blotch severity was 14 % and Orius+Mirador 11 %, but with all other treatments severity was only 1.3 3.8 %. Elatus Era and Ascra Xpro treatments had slightly lower disease severity, but also Comet Pro+Juventus, Elatus Plus+Amistar Xtra, Comet Pro+Prosaro and Delaro had good efficacy. Green leaf area at milk ripening stage in the untreated control was only 7.5 % on the flag leaf. In all treated plots four leaf layers were still partly green and green leaf area was 82 96 %. The trial was harvested on 27 th of September. The yield of untreated control was 3800 kg/ha. The yield increase with all treatments was 26 47 % to 4850 5600 kg/ha, but there was no statistical difference between the treatments. Highest yield was achieved with Elatus Era and Ascra Xpro, over 5500 kg/ha. Those treatments had also the highest efficacy against diseases. Hectoliter weight in the untreated control was 64.8 kg, but all treatments increased it 6 9 % to 68.9 70.4 kg. Again Elatus Era and Ascra Xpro had the highest increase in HLW. Thousand grain weight was 34.3 g in the untreated control. Thousand grain weight with all treatments was 17 26 % higher, 40 43 g. With Orius+Mirador, Delaro and Proline increase in TGW was 17 19 %, when it was 22 26 % with Comet Pro+Prosaro, Elatus Plus+Amistar Xtra, Comet Pro+Juventus, Ascra Xpro and Elatus Era. The reason for higher yield, HLW and TGW was that with fungicide treatments the crop stayed green three to four weeks longer than in the untreated control.
2017 Efficacy evaluation of fungicides against net blotch in spring barley - Advisory fungicide trial TIIVISTELMÄ Markkinoilla olevia viljojen sienitautien torjunta-aineita testattiin ohralla kenttäkokeessa Jokioisissa. Testatut valmisteet olivat Proline 0.6 l/ha, Comet Pro + Juventus 0.4+0.4 l/ha, Orius + Mirador 0.8+0.4 l/ha, Elatus Era 1.0 l/ha, ElatusPlus + Amustar Xtra 0.5+0.5 l/ha, Comet Pro + Prosaro 0.4+0.4 l/ha, Ascra Xpro 1.0 l/ha ja Delaro 0.7 l/ha. Kokeeseen sisältyi myös käsittelemätön koejäsen. Koe suunniteltiin yhteistyössä kasvinsuojeluaineyritysten kanssa ja toteutettiin GEP-laatujärjestelmän mukaisesti. Kasvukauden sää oli tavanomaisesta vähän poikkeava. Toukokuussa oli kuivaa ja vasta kuun lopussa tuli enemmän sateita, mutta sademäärä oli vain 13 mm ja alle pitkän ajan 1981 2010 keskiarvon joka on 41mm. Toukokuu oli viileä lukuun ottamatta yhtä lämmintä jaksoa. Keskilämpötila oli silti asteen normaalia 9.8 C alhaisempi. Kesäkuussa vettä satoi 101 mm ja se on 40 mm yli pitkäaikaisen keskiarvon. Keskilämpötila oli 12.8 C, kun se normaalisti on 14 C. Heinäkuussa satoi 45 mm eli 30 mm tavallista vähemmän. Myös keskilämpötila oli 14.9 C ollen 1.8 C alle tavanomaisen. Ilmankosteus oli korkea koko kuukauden ja maa ja kasvusto eivät päässeet kuivumaan. Elokuu oli pitkän ajan keskiarvoa vähän viileämpi ja kosteampi. Kesä-, heinä ja elokuussa päivän maksimilämpötilat olivat harvemmin yli 20 C ja hellepäiviä ei ollut. Syyskuussa oli poutaisempaa ja vähän lämpöisempää, joten viljat pääsivät tuleentumaan. Ohrakoe sijaitsi Jokioisilla Kuumassa ja se kylvettiin 29.5.2017. Lajikkeena oli Voitto, mikä on melko verkkolaikun altis lajike. Esikasvina oli kaura. Kasvuunlähtö oli hidasta ja ohra kärsi liian märästä maasta, sillä kesäkuussa oli sateista ja maa ei ehtinyt kuivumaan. Kesäkuun loppupuolella ohra alkoi kasvaa kunnolla ja kasvustosta tuli oikein rehevä. Käsittely tehtiin 7.7. lippulehtivaiheessa BBCH 37, kun lippulehdet eivät olleet vielä täysin auki. Käsittelyhetkellä verkkolaikkua oli neljännellä lehdellä noin 3 %. Kaksi viikkoa ruiskutuksen jälkeen ohra oli kukinnan loppuvaiheessa. Käsittelyillä ei ollut vioituksia ohralla. Käsittelemättömässä kontrollissa verkkolaikkua oli 11 % lehtialasta, mutta kaikilla käsittelyillä tautimäärä oli vain 1 2 %. Käsittelyiden välillä ei ollut vielä eroa. Verkkolaikku levisi seuraavan kahden viikon aikana runsaasti ja maitotuleentumisvaiheessa käsittelemättömissä ruuduissa taudin määrä oli jo 86 %. Proline ja Orius+Mirador käsittelyjen teho oli heikentynyt, mutta oli yhä 83 87 % (verkkolaikkua 11 14 %). Muiden käsittelyjen teho oli yhä 97 99 %, verkkolaikkua oli siis vain 1 4 % lehtialasta. Elatus Eran ja Ascra Xpron teho oli hieman muita käsittelyjä parempi. Vihreä lehtiala oli käsittelemättömissä ruuduissa enää noin 8 %, kun taas käsittelyillä 82 96 % lehtialasta oli vielä vihreää. Parhailla käsittelyillä jopa neljä ylintä lehteä oli vielä vihreitä ja säilyivät taudista puhtaina kellastumiseen asti. Koe puitiin syyskuun lopussa. Käsittelemättömän kontrollin sato oli 3800 kg/ha. Kaikilla käsittelyillä oli selvä 26 47 % sadonlisäys ja sato oli 4850 5600 kg/ha. Käsittelyjen välillä ei ollut tilastollisesti merkitsevää eroa. Parhaat sadot tuottivat Elatus Era ja Ascra Xpro käsittelyt, jotka pitivät kasvuston myös vihreimpänä pisimpään. Hehtolitrapaino oli ilman käsittelyä 64.8kg ja käsittelyt lisäsivät sitä 6 9%, jolloin se oli 68.9 70.4 kg. Tuhannen jyvän paino oli käsittelemättömässä kontrollissa 34.3 g. Myös TJP lisääntyi eri käsittelyillä 17 26 % ollen siten 40 43 %. Parhaat käsittelyt sadon määrässä ja laadussa olivat Elatus Era ja Ascra Xpro, mutta hyvin lähellä olivat myös Elatus Plus+Amistar Xtra ja Comet Pro+Juventus.
