Efficacy evaluation of fungicides against brown Natural Resources Institute Finland 2015 rust and leaf spot diseases in winter rye - Advisory fungicide trial SUMMARY The efficacy of the fungicide tank mixtures were tested in one field trial. The tested tank mixtures were Folicur Xpert+Delaro 0.25+0.5 l/ha, Folicur Xpert+Delaro 0.5+0.5 l/ha, Stereo 312.5 EC + Mirador 0.5+0.25 l/ha, Tilt 250 EC + Mirador 1.0+0.25 l/ha and Comet Pro+Prosaro 0.5+0.4 l/ha. The standard treatments were 0.6 l/ha Proline and 0.6 + 0.5 l/ha Comet Pro + Juventus. An untreated control was included in the trial. carried out the trial in a farmer s field that was located in Loimaa. The fungicide treatments were planned in cooperation with sponsors and the trial was carried out according to GEP standards and relevant EPPO guidelines. The trial was established in the population rye Reetta instead of the planned hybrid rye. That was because crop density was too variable for trial purposes in the hybrid rye fields available. Target diseases were brown rust (Puccinia recondita) and scald (Rhynchosporium secalis). Fungicides were applied in the beginning of the heading (BBCH 51) on June 2 th. That time the crop stand was in vigorous growth and leaves were still free from fungal diseases. The cool and moist weather was favourable for scald infection. Scald appeared in the crop stand soon after the application but brown rust did not occur even later in summer in the trial. No phytotoxicity appeared in any of the treatments. At milk ripening stage the crop stand lodged partly so that ears, however, remained 60 90 cm above the ground. Disease severity was observed twice, 15 days and 41 days after the fungicide application. In the first assessment at late heading stage (BBCH 59) the scald severity was 8.5 % in the untreated control. The control efficacy varied from 0 % to 29 % between the fungicide treatments without any statistically significant difference. In the second assessment at water ripening stage (BBCH 71) the two uppermost leaves were assessed. Scald severity in the untreated plots were 17 %. The final control efficacy varied from 0 % to 33 %, again without any statistically significant difference among the fungicide treatments. This means that none of the fungicides controlled scald efficiently. However, some fungicide treatments had clear impact on yield. The yield level in the trial was high, 5642 kg/ha in the untreated plots. The yield achieved with the tank mixture of Stereo 312.5 EC and Mirador was equal to that in the untreated plots. Other fungicide treatments increased grain yield by 5 13 %. The highest yield increase was achieved with the tank mixtures where Folicur Xpert was included. Fungicide treatments increased thousand kernel weight by 1 4 % but they had hardly any impact on hectolitre weight. TIIVISTELMÄ Markkinoilla olevia viljojen sienitautien torjunta-aineita testattiin tankkiseoksina kenttäkokeessa Loimaalla. Tankkiseokset olivat Folicur Xpert+Delaro 0.25+0.5 l/ha, Folicur Xpert+Delaro 0.5+0.5 l/ha, Stereo 312.5 EC + Mirador 1.0+0.25 l/ha, Tilt 250 EC+Mirador 1.0+0.25 l/ha ja Comet Pro+Prosaro 0.5+0.4 l/ha. Verrannekäsittelyt olivat Proline 0.6 l/ha sekä tankkiseos Comet Pro + Juventus 0.6+0.5 l/ha. Kokeeseen sisältyi myös käsittelemätön koejäsen. Koe suunniteltiin yhteistyössä kasvinsuojeluaineyritysten kanssa ja toteutettiin GEP-laatujärjestelmän mukaisesti. Kasvukaudele 2015 oli ominaista heinäkuun lopulle saakka jatkunut kostea, viileä ja pilvinen sää. Elokuu sitä vastoin oli oli keskimääräistä lämpimämpi ja aurinkoisempi ja sademäärä ainoastaan puolet tavanomaisesta. Elokuun lopussa kasvukausi oli 11 päivää jäljessä normaalista. Tehoisa lämpösumma Jokioisten mittausasemalla oli 1012 astetta, kun sen pitkäaikaiskeskiarvo vuosilta 1981 2010 on 1119 astetta. Huhti elokuun sadekertymä oli 300 mm, joka oli hieman yli pitkäaikaisen keskiarvon 289 mm. Kosteutta oli ruiskasvuston tarpeisiin riittävästi koko kasvukaudenajan. Lisäksi lämmin ja aurinkoinen sää elokuussa mahdollisti tuleentumisen suotuisissa oloissa. Suunnitellun hybridirukiin sijaan koe perustettiin populaatiorukiiseen, koska Jokioisten lähialueilta tarkastetuista ruiskasvustoista viljelijän pellolta tavattu tasaisen tiheä Reetta-kasvusto sopi parhaiten koetarkoitukseen. In May, June and July, the daily average temperatures were below the long term average and the precipitation above the long term average. August was warm and the precipitation at the nearest weather station in Jokioinen was only 50 % of the long term average. In the end of August the growing season was 11 days behind the normal based on the effective temperature sum.
