3 printing_students.docx 2 / General printing instructions in Savonia The printers in Savonia should only be used for the studying purposes. The studying materials should mainly be published in electronic form (pdf). At 1st of January and at 1st of August a printing credit of 15 euros (which is 150 pages) will be added to all Savonia UAS students existing printing credits. The print of one black & white page costs 10 cents and one color page costs 50 cents. Savonia pays the printing papers. Printing has been defined to be 2-sided. If you print two b&w pages (one page each side of one paper) your printing credit will decrease with two pages (= 20 cents). You can only print if your printing credit allows it. So if your printing credit is 50 cents and you try to print 6 pages you can t print any pages at all (unless you define that you only print 5 pages of the file). You can buy more printing credit from Savonia s libraries. For thesis you will have an extra 250 pages printing credit added to your existing credit. For that send to Savonia s Service Desk (sd@savonia.fi). You can check your own printing credit by logging into Savonia s computers. Then open the Linkit-folder on the desktop. After that doubleclick Tulostussaldon tarkistus. Next click Continue to this website (IE) tai Allow (Firefox), if needed. Login with your campus user name and password. The URL to check your credit is: Unused credits won t be paid in cash! In you have any questions about printing, please, don t hesitate to ask Savonia s Service Desk ( / sd@savonia.fi / ). When contacting SD always tell: o which campus, which room and which printer the problem is about o what was the name of the file that caused the printing problem o at which day and at which time you were trying to print o what was the problem when trying to print

4 printing_students.docx 3 / 28 Savonia s printers have been named according to syntex: Cam-Room-Printer, where o o o Cam is the campus Room is the room where the printer is located Printer is the mark and the model of the printer. So e.g. printer Mic-S447-Canon-5035 is located on the Microkatu campus and on the room S447 (elevator lobby) of building S and the printer is Canon In every printer there is also a sticker with the printer s name on it (picture 1 below) In Savonia you always print to secure printing queues (in the picture to the right there is a Canon secure printing queue). You can find your own computer s printing queues by selecting Start/Devices and Printers. You can release your own printings from any printing device on any campus. Picture 1. 5 printing_students.docx 4 / New printing system (multifunction devices) In Savonia s new printing system users send their printings into the printing system. Then you can release your own print jobs from any of the Canon or Xerox multifunction printers attached to the printing system. There are separate print queues to Canon and Xerox devices (Turvatulostus Canon/Turvatulostus Xerox). Turvatulostus ColorQube-print queue is just for staff use. Your printings will stay in the print queue for 7 days. For students started their studies at 2010 or after the RFID-identifier has been integrated into their student cards. Students started their studies before 2010 should collect the RFID-identifier from Savonia s Service Desk. You have to register your RFID-identifier first. That you will do with your campus user name and password. Instructions will follow in chapter 3. When you print you select either print queue Turvatulostus Canon or Turvatulostus Xerox as your printer. Your printing will be transferred to the printing system but it won t come out from any printer until you release your print job. You can release your printings with either with the RFID-identifier or typing manually your campus user name and password on the console of the multifunction device. Make always sure that your print job actually prints out of the multifunction device when you have released it. Or you can delete your print job from the print queue on the console of the multifunction device. More instructions to follow on chapter 5.2. Instructions for printing with multifunction devices are on chapter 4. Listing of Savonia s multifunction devices will be on the chapter 7. You can copy your papers within the limits of your printing credit. You can also scan your papers with multifunction devices. Scanning your papers into electronic form won t decrease your printing credit. The scanned images will be transferred into your Savonia s mailbox.

6 printing_students.docx 5 / Registering into printing system Before you can print you have to register to the printing system with your RFID-identifier 3.1. Registering to Canon multifunction devices a. Move your RFID-identifier from side to side near the RFID-reader (picture 2 below). You should see the green light blink. Picture 2. RFID-reader b. Next you will have a keyboard on the console (picture 5). If you can see the keyboard icon to the right from the white box you can have the keyboard also by pressing that icon (not visible in picture 5). Picture 4. If you can see the keyboard icon to the right from the white box you can have the keyboard also by pressing that icon (not visible in picture 6). Picture 6. Press End Session (in picture 9 below surrounded by the red color). Your RFIDidentifier has now been registered and you can start printing into Canon multifunction devices (chapter 4). Picture 9. Hold you RFID card in front of the reader until you see the green light flashing. then you can see the text: PIN not recognized. Would you like to associate pin with account? Press Kyllä on the screen. Step 2. Next type in your Savonia user name and press Valmis on the screen. Then type in your Savonia password and press Valmis. Now the registration is done. Always remember to log out.

When using Canon devices you select Turvatulostus Canon as your printer (picture to the right). When using Xerox devices you select Turvatulostus Xerox as your printer. After printing your print jobs you can release them out of multifunction devices A. either typing your campus user name and password on the device console B. or with your RFID-identifier. NB! You can release your print jobs from any of Canon or Xerox multifunction devive on any campus. If you printed to Turvatulostus Canon print queue you get your print job out of any Canon multifunction device and the same with Xerox Releasing your printing jobs with your user account a. Press the white rectangle to the right from Käyttäjän ID-button (surrounded with red color in the picture 10 below). You should see the keyboard on the console. Some devices also have the keyboard icon to the right from the white rectangle. By pressing that icon you can also have the keyboard on the console. Picture 10. If your print jobs doesn t come out of the printer after you have pressed Print check the instructions in the chapter 5.

15 printing_students.docx 14 / Releasing you print jobs with your RFID-identifier If you have a RFID-identifier which has been registered into the printing system (chapter 3), hold it in front of the RFID-reader (chapter 3a) and go on with the instructions 3e-3g.

16 printing_students.docx 15 / Error situations When printing in Savonia s multifunction devices we are using safe printing, which means that when we print from work station the print jobs doesn t com eout at the same time. Instead users have the freedom to release their printings whenever they want. When students print their print jobs they select either Canon s (picture in the right) or Xerox s print queue. The printings can be released from any multifunction device of that model. When you print to Canon s print queue you can release the printings from any of the Canon s multifunction device and the same with Xerox. Here are some common error situations and instructions what to do in those situations Release the jammed printings NB! In this situation the user before have printed his/her print job but he/she hasn t reacted even though his/her printings hasn t come out of the multifunction device! Always when you print make sure that I. your print job comes out of the multifunction device OR II. delete your print job that has jammed the multifunction device. Picture 17. When you come to multifunction device and you see the orange light on the right lower corner of the device blinking (surrounded by the orange color in the picture 17 above), the print job of the user before you have jammed the device. No-one can print with the device before that user s jammed printing has been released. So press the button on the lower left corner of device (surrounded by red color in the picture 17 above). If there is no light blinking on the console you can release your print jobs (chapter 5.2).

The problem is usually that the user has selected a different paper size than A4 (usually Letter) in the program where he/she has printed his/her print job from. Press OK on the console screen (surrounded by the red color on the picture 18 above) and the printing should come out of the multifunction device. By pressing Pysäytä on the console screen you could stop your printing and it would also be deleted from the print queue. d. Press OK once again on the next screen on the console (picture 19 below). 18 printing_students.docx 17 / Make sure your own print job comes out a. When there are no print jobs jamming the multifunction device you can print out your own print job(s). Identify yourself on the device (RFID-identifier or manually) and print your print jobs. Log out by pressing End session (picture 20 below). Picture 20. If the orange light starts to blink on the lower right corner of the device console after you have tried to print your print job (surrounded by orange color in the picture 17) follow the instructions in the chapter 5.1. c. Another option is to delete your print job out of the print queue. You can see the jobs in the print queue by clicking the button on the lower left corner of the device console (surrounded by the red color in the picture 17). You will see the window like in the picture 21 below.

20 printing_students.docx 19 / Selecting the default printer (Windows 7) This is how you can select the default printer in Windows 7. a. Click the Windows Start-button with your left mouse button. b. Select Devices and Printers (Laitteet ja tulostimet). c. Click the printer you want to select as your default printer with right mouse button. d. Select Set as default printer (Määritä oletustulostimeksi). e. The default printer is marked with green icon.

21 printing_students.docx 20 / Print settings (Canon) 2-sided black & white printing is the default setting when printing in Savonia. However, you can change the print settings. here are listed some common settings. You change the settings through printer s properties. In Word you select File/Print and then Printer properties (Tulostimen ominaisuudet in finnish), surrounded by red color in the picture below. After that you can see the printer properties window, picture below.

22 printing_students.docx 21 / Color printing (Canon) NB! One color page decreases your printing credit by 50 cents. One b&w page is 10 cents. You select the color printing on the Quality-tab s Color Mode-list (surrounded by red color in the picture below). When you want a color printing don t select Color, but Auto (Color/B&W). Color-selection prints black color by mixing all the other colors. Auto (Color/B&W) prints black with black color and uses other colors only when printing other colors than black.

23 printing_students.docx 22 / sided printing (Canon) You can change the 2-sided printing to 1-sided printing on the Page Setup-tab. Select Valitse 1- sidedfrom the Profile-list.

24 printing_students.docx 23 / Finishing settings (Canon) You can set the automatic stapling on the Finishing-tab by selecting Staple + Collate (Nido ja Lajittele in finnish) from the Finishing-list (surrounded by red color in the picture below). If you click Staple Position-button you can select the position of the staples.

25 printing_students.docx 24 / Number of the holes (Canon) You can have 2 holes on the left edge of the papers. That setting you can find from the Finishingtab by selecting 2 Holes from the Hole Punch-list (surrounded by orange color in the picture above) Booklet printing (Canon) YTou can print your printing in the form of booklet. On the Finishing-tab select Booklet Printing from the Print Style-list, surrounded by red color in the picture below.
