ROP Introduction / Esittely ROP is a cross-discipline art project started in 2011. ROP is formed by visual artist Tuomo Rosenlund (Bachelor of Arts) and designerwoodworker Pekko Orava (Master of Science). We create painted sculptures and three-dimensional paintings, mainly out of wood. ROP's works contemplate the relationship of today's human being to itself in the modern times. The developed world of today we live in is to great extent created by man, having become an image of man. This is how it looks and feels like on the surface and therefore has lead to the belief that man can control the world. Yet, under the surface it is the nature that allows us the resources, often gracefully on credit. We would need to be more ingenious and clever than ever before to solve the global problems we have today and in the future. That is a wicked problem, not eased by the struggle we have with the primitive instincts and urges deeply built inside each of us. How will a humble individual manage the rescue operation of the world and one's soul? ROP on vuonna 2011 alkanut poikkitaiteellinen projekti. ROP:n muodostavat kuvataiteilija (AMK) Tuomo Rosenlund ja puuseppä/di Pekko Orava. Luomme maalattuja veistoksia ja kolmiulotteisia maalauksia, pääasiassa puusta. Teostemme sisällöt tutkivat nykyihmisen suhdetta omaan itseensä modernissa ajassa. Kehittynyt nykymaailma, jossa elämme, on osittain ihmisen luoma itsensä kaltaisekseen. Näin ainakin pinnalta käsin näyttää, ja helposti kuvittelemmekin hallitsevamme sitä. Pinnan alla kuitenkin luonto antaa meille resurssit, joskus armeliaasti luotoksi asti. Meidän pitäisikin olla nyt älykkäämpiä ja neuvokkaampia kuin koskaan aiemmin ratkaistaksemme maapallomme ongelmat tällä hetkellä ja tulevaisuudessa. Tehtävä on melko haastava, etenkin kun kaiken suorittamisemme ytimessä on perustavanlaatuinen kamppailumme alkukantaisesti meihin rakennettujen vaistojen ja viettien parissa. Miten selviää tämän päivän pieni yksilö maailman-, ja sielunsa, pelastamisoperaatiossa? In the midst, and into the center, of these questions, it is good to create art. The art ROP creates wants to believe in tomorrow and, foremost, in humanity. ROP's works aims to keep positive attitude, even when dealing with grim or difficult topics there is always hope. We target to create works where the viewer can see the full spectrum of feelings from comedy to drama. To appreciate a good laugh, one needs to cry now and then. The themes are approached through imaginary places and locations built in miniature scale, similar to stage sets, formed of structures resembling reality, like houses or bridges. Often in this "stage of life", there stands a lone small human figure, a man or a woman. It is not about "individual", the figures are so small you can barely make out any facial features. It is more about human beings and humanity collectively, even gender does not play a great role. Sometimes the figure is not present. There are only buildings or other traces of human activity, representing the humanity. There is symbolism in our work, for example, one can think that a building represents whole society in addition to individual. Teemaa lähestytään pienoiskokoon rakennettujen kuvitteellisten tilojen ja paikkojen kautta. Ne ovat kuin lavasteita, jotka muodostuvat todellisuutta muistuttavista rakenteista, kuten taloista tai silloista. Näissä "elämän näyttämöillä", esiintyy usein yksittäinen pieni ihmishahmo, mies tai nainen. Paino ei ole kuitenkaan sanalla "yksilö", sillä hahmot ovat niin pieniä, ettei kasvonpiirteitäkään juuri erota. Ennemminkin kyse on vain ihmisestä olentona, edes sukupuolella ei ole suurta merkitystä. Aina hahmoa ei ole näkyvillä. Esillä on vain rakennuksia tai muita ihmisen jälkiä, jotka toimivat ihmisyyden edustajina. Symboliikalla on suuri merkitys teoksissamme, esimerkiksi rakennuksen voi ajatella edustavan yksilön lisäksi koko yhteiskuntaamme.
