2 Teknologiaa! Perusasteen teknologiaopetuksen kehityshanke Saija Artama & Hannu Lehti & Tero Luodeslampi Tiivistelmä Teknologiaa! on Tampereen normaalikoulussa toteutettava perusasteen teknologiaopetuksen kehityshanke, jonka tavoitteena on uudistaa koulun teknologiaopetusta ja luoda toimiva, yritysyhteistyötä sisältävä kokonaisuus teknologiaopetukseen. Projektissa suunnitellaan ja rakennetaan moderni oppimisympäristö ja järjestetään toimiva yhteistyö automaatioyrityksen kanssa. Projektin rahoittajana toimii Teknologiateollisuuden 100-vuotissäätiö. Projekti on aloitettu Taustoja Tampereen normaalikoulussa on järjestetty teknologiaopetusta jo vuosien ajan valinnaisaineena. Valinnaisaine on ollut suosittu ja sitä on kehitetty yhteistyössä fysiikan ja teknisen työn opettajien kesken. Vähitellen on virinnyt idea lähteä uudistamaan opetusta vastaamaan entistä paremmin työelämän tarpeita automaatiotekniikan alalla. Yritys- 79
3 yhteistyön rakentaminen on koettu oleelliseksi keinoksi luoda oppilaille realistinen käsitys yritysten ja työelämän toiminnasta. Tämä on ollut alkusysäys Teknologiaa!-projektille. Projektin on mahdollistanut Teknologiateollisuuden 100-vuotissäätiön myöntämä apuraha. Teknologiaa! Teknologiaa!-projektissa rakennetaan moderni oppimisympäristö, teknologiapaja. Pajaan osallistuvat oppilaat vierailevat yrityksessä tutustumassa käytännön automaatio-ongelmaan. Vierailun jälkeen he mallintavat vastaavan ongelman tietokoneohjatulla rakennussarjalla. Mallit dokumentoidaan sähköiseen oppimisympäristöön, jossa niihin voivat perehtyä muut oppilaat, vanhemmat, opettajat ja yritysten edustajat. Projektissa luotavaa opetuskokonaisuutta esitellään teknologiaopetuksesta kiinnostuneille opettajille järjestämällä täydennyskoulutusta. Projekti tarjoaa myös fysiikan opetusharjoittelijoille mielenkiintoisia harjoittelumahdollisuuksia teknologiaopetuksen parissa. Tavoitteet Projektin tavoitteena on tuottaa automaatioalalle innostuneita ja osaavia opiskelijoita ja esitellä toimiva teknologiaopetuskokonaisuus muille asiasta innostuneille opettajille. Yritysvierailu lisää oppilaan tietämystä teollisuusyrityksen toiminnasta. Automaatio-ongelmaa ratkaistessa ja mallia rakentaessa kehittyvät oppilaan mekaniikan rakennustaidot, sähkötekniikan taidot, ohjelmointitaidot sekä yhteistyö- ja ongelmanratkaisutaidot. Opetusharjoittelijoille teknologiapaja tarjoaa harjoitteluympäristön, jossa yhdistyvät koulumaailma, teollisuusyritys ja yrityksen aidot automaatio-ongelmat. He saavat käytännön kokemusta ongelmanrat- 80
4 kaisutehtävien ohjaamisesta, toimintamalleista ja yhteistyöverkostojen luomisesta. Harjoittelua ohjaaville opettajille teknologiapaja tarjoaa ympäristön, jossa ideoida, kehittää ja testata käytännönläheisiä teknologia-alan projektitöitä ja uusia toimintamalleja yritysten kanssa. Kuva 1. Periaatekuva Teknologiaa! -projektin yritysyhteistyöstä Käytännön järjestelyt Kevätlukukauden 2010 aikana on tutustuttu erilaisiin teknologiaopetuksen välineistöihin. Teknologiapajan käyttöön valikoituneen ohjelmoitavan Lego Mindstorms Education NXT -sarjan vahvuuksia ovat sen tuttuus oppilaille, kohtuullinen hinta ja monipuoliset rakennusmahdollisuudet. Lego-sarjan etuna on myös mahdollisuus liittää siihen Vernier-mitta-antureita. Käyttöön on valittu myös Picaxemikrokontrollerijärjestelmä. Sen etuja ovat edullisuus ja erinomainen laajennettavuus. Sekä Lego Mindstorms että Picaxe-järjestelmässä ohjelmoinnin aloittamisen kynnys oppilaalle on matala. Picaxe-mikrokontrollereissa käytetään ilmaista ohjelmointiympäristöä, joten oppilaat voivat ohjelmoida kotonakin. Opetuksessa ja oppimisessa Picaxe- ja Lego-järjestelmä tukevat toisiaan. Projektin puitteissa on tutustuttu myös Festo MecLab, Fishertechnik ja Moway -laitteistoihin. 81
5 Tampereen normaalikoulun teknologiaopetus koostuu kahdesta kurssista: Mallintaminen ja Teknologiaprojekti. Mallintaminen on kahdeksannella luokalla ja Teknologiaprojekti yhdeksännellä luokalla. Teknologiaa!-projektissa suunniteltu opetus ja yritysyhteistyö toteutetaan yhdeksäsluokkalaisten kanssa Teknologiaprojekti-kurssin puitteissa. Kurssin alkupuolella toteutetaan yritysyhteistyö ja loppuosa käytetään Picaxe-laitteiden rakentamiseen ja ohjelmointiin. Oppilaiden suunnittelemien, rakentamien ja ohjelmoimien laitteiden dokumentointia varten käytössä on digitaalikamera ja sähköinen Moodle-oppimisympäristö. Ohjelmointi suoritetaan kannettavilla minitietokoneilla. Fyysisesti teknologiapajaa pidetään sekä teknisen työn että fysiikan luokassa. Yhteistyöyritykseksi on lupautunut Fastems Oy. Opetuksen suunnitteluun ja toteutukseen osallistuu teknologiaopetuksesta innostuneita harjoittelijoita. Taulukko 1. Kurssin aikataulu ja toteutunut toiminta Oppitunteja (75 min) Toiminta Oppilaat tutustuvat uusiin Lego Mindstorms Education NXT -sarjoihin. Oppilaat tutustuvat oikeiden teollisuusrobottien toimintaan ja ohjelmointiin Fastems Oy:ssä ja pääsevät käyttämään yrityksen harjoitusrobottia ja ohjelmoimaan sitä. Oppilaat rakentavat ja ohjelmoivat harjoitusrobotista mallin Lego Mindstorms -sarjan ja muiden koululta löytyvien Legojen avulla. Tavoitteena on rakentaa robottikäsi, joka pystyy tarttumaan kappaleeseen sekä nostamaan ja siirtämään sitä. Samalla oppilaat dokumentoivat työnsä etenemistä Moodleen sekä kommentoivat muiden oppilaiden robotteja. Oppilaat purkavat robottinsa ja järjestävät osat paikoilleen sekä lukevat kommentteja roboteistaan. 82
6 Kokemuksia Lukuvuonna teknologiaopetuksen valinnaisainekursseille on osallistunut 43 oppilasta eli kolme ryhmää luokilta 8 9. Syksyllä ensimmäisenä aloittaneen yhdeksännen luokan ryhmän kanssa on toteutettu yritysyhteistyö. Ryhmän työskentely jatkuu Picaxe-rakentelun ja -ohjelmoinnin parissa keväällä Taulukossa 1 on esitelty kurssin toteutunut aikataulu ja käytännön toiminta. Kokemukset ovat hyvin positiivisia ja oppilaiden reaktiot innostuneita. Moodlen käyttö osana teknologiaopetusta toimii hyvin. Oppilaat ovat tallentaneet Moodleen kuvia rakentamistaan laitteista ja niiden ohjelmista. Oppilaat ovat myös kommentoineet työnsä etenemistä Moodleen, joten kurssin ulkopuolisen henkilön on ollut helppoa seurata prosessia ja esittää siitä kommentteja. Erityisesti yrityksen edustajan kommenteilla on ollut oppilaille suuri painoarvo. Parannusehdotuksena oppilaat ovat esittäneet toiveen pidemmästä työskentelyajasta. Syksyllä toisena aloittaneen yhdeksännen luokan ryhmän kanssa on jouduttu luopumaan yritysyhteistyöstä oppilaiden työelämään tutustumisjakson vietyä kurssista oppitunteja. Taulukossa 2 on esitetty tämän kurssin aikataulu ja toteutunut toiminta. Kurssin puitteissa on saatu arvokasta kokemusta yritysyhteistyötä korvaavasta automatisoidun tehdaslinjaston mallintamisesta ja Picaxe-järjestelmän käytöstä. Toteutunut aikataulu on ollut liian tiukka toimivan tehdaslinjastomallin suunnittelulle ja toteutukselle. Erilliset laitteet ehtii rakentaa ja dokumentoida, mutta ei yhdistää yhdeksi toimivaksi kokonaisuudeksi. Idea on kuitenkin ollut oppilaista erittäin inspiroiva ja sitä kannattaa kehittää edelleen. Kuvassa 2 on yksi tehdaslinjaston osa. Ohjelmoitava Picaxe-mikrokontrolleri on niin ikään ollut hyvä valinta. Oppilaat ovat päässeet onnistuneesti harjoittelemaan elektroniikkataitojaan ja kokeilemaan ohjelmoimista. He ovat oppineet miten automaattisia toimintoja voidaan elektroniikan avulla tuottaa. Lukuvuonna teknologiakursseilla harjoittelee 4 matemaattisten aineiden harjoittelijaa. Heidän kommenttiensa mukaan 83
7 harjoittelu kursseilla on ollut avartavaa ja opettavaista, mutta toisaalta työlästä laitteistoihin tutustumisen vaatiman ajan takia. Harjoittelijat ovat tuottaneet ja testanneet hyvää materiaalia kurssien käyttöön. Lisäksi 3 harjoittelijaa tutkii osana opettajaopintojaan Lego Mindstorms Education NXT -sarjan soveltuvuutta fysiikan tai automaatiotekniikan opettamiseen. Taulukko 2. Kurssin aikataulu ja toteutunut toiminta Oppitunteja (75 min) Toiminta Oppilaat tutustuvat uusiin Lego Mindstorms Education NXT -sarjoihin. Oppilaat suunnittelevat ja rakentavat Legoista automatisoitua tehdaslinjastoa, jossa kappale kiertää laitteelta toiselle, esimerkiksi robottikädeltä liukuhihnalle ja liukuhihnalta nosturille jne. Samalla oppilaat dokumentoivat työnsä etenemistä Moodleen sekä kommentoivat muiden oppilaiden robotteja. Oppilaat purkavat robottinsa ja järjestävät osat paikoilleen Oppilaat valmistavat piirilevyn, johon liitetään Picaxe 08Mmikrokontrolleri ja tarvittavat elektroniikkakomponentit. Piirilevyyn voi liittää kaksi sisäänmenoa ja kolme ulostuloa. Sisäänmenoina käytetään painonappi- ja magneettikytkimiä. Ulostuloihin liitetään moottoreita, kaiuttimia ja ledejä. Oppilaat opiskelevat Picaxe-mikrokontrollerin Basic-kielistä ohjelmointia harjoitustehtävien avulla. Oppilaiden tehtävänä on saada kolme ulostuloihin kytkettyä lediä vilkkumaan haluamallaan tavalla tai tuottaa erilaisia ääniä ulostuloon liitetystä kaiuttimesta. Nopeimmat ohjelmoijat ehtivät kokeilla taitojaan esimerkiksi veikkauskoneen ohjelmoinnissa. Tuntien ohessa oppilaat myös lukevat Lego-laitteidensa saamia kommentteja. 84
8 Tulevaisuus Teknologiakurssien tulevaisuus näyttää hyvältä ja ne ovat suosittuja. Picaxe-järjestelmän käyttö vaatii opettajilta edelleen kouluttautumista ja teknologiapajan oppilastyöt jatkuvaa kehittämistä. Projektin tulevaisuuden suurimpia haasteita on teknologiaopetuksen täydennyskoulutuksen järjestäminen. Yhteistyökumppaniksi täydennyskoulutuksen järjestämiseen on lupautunut tamperelainen Tevella Oy. Suunnitelmissa on lisäksi hankittujen laitteiden käytön laajentaminen fysiikan, erityisesti mekaniikan opetukseen. Kuva 2.
