Practicalities at JyU JyU will not prioritize applications, however the full draft applications must be sent to mobility@jyu.fi in order for the Rector and the Science Council to analyze them Full application = Plan of intent and the Application form The final date for the delivery of the draft application is 19 April 2016 The University Strategy must be taken into account and must be linked to the CoE theme See the updated program the Strategy at https://www.jyu.fi/hallinto/strategia/strategiat/strategian_toime npideohjelma_2016_2020/view (at the moment only in Finnish) All the CoE Intents (both individual and Consortium partner intents) must be delivered to mobility@jyu.fi
Core fields, see JyU Strategy Learning, teaching and the learning and growth environments that support development Basic natural phenomena and mathematical thinking Languages, culture and communities in global change processes Physical activity, health and wellbeing Information technology and the human in the knowledge society
Practicalities Vice rector Kaisa Miettinen will sign the Project announcement form (Hankeilmoituslomake) for the CoE intent Exception to the general practise, when the Head of the Department signs the form See Quality assurance of the projects at https://www.jyu.fi/yliopistopalvelut/intra/laitoksille/h ow-to/quality-assurance-manual?set_language=en Rector will give the Commitment for funding by the site for the application
Commitment procedure: Page Funding for the project at the application
How to make the application? Check the call and the application guidelines http://www.aka.fi/en/research-and-sciencepolicy/centres-of-excellence/application-process/ 1. Open the application form at Online services, www.aka.fi! 2. Use the template for the Plan of Intent and follow the structure 3. Check the Evaluation report for the plan of intent
Renewed CoE 3 key words: Quality, Renewal, Impact Break-through research and open up the programme for the younger generation Extended funding period 6 8 with midterm full scientific evaluation during the 5th year to ensure renewal of science funding level the same, higher, lower or the CoE can even be terminated! Sustainability in funding after the termination of the programme! The position of the host organisation strenthened; Stronger commitment of host to CoE during and especially after the CoE period. Hosts will and should utilise the mid term evalution in order to decide their commitment Research infrastructures - Finnish RI Roadmap and ESFRI - should be taken into consideration
Quality, renewal, impact Impact on society at large in forms natural to the particular scientific/scholarly disciplines Make the IMPACT visible in your discipline Explain how the IMPACT has been realised in the area and how you will continue, improve that; CoE must report on Impact
Comments and discussions Professors Johanna Mappes, Rauno Julin, Petri Toiviainen and Tero Heikkilä presented their CoEs Unusual combinations with strong common theoretical frame seems to attract funding Consortium structure adds travelling very much compared to a CoE of a single university Infrastucture requirements must be taken into account Sometimes it is enough to prepare the application in a very short period of time Personnel demographics are important researchers outside Finland and the gender balance The value of training of PhD-students: it was unclear, if inclusion of the training programme at the CoE was possible at the CoE. The commitment of the host site can vary: It was discussed, if the host should cover more than 30 % of the CoE Funding organise When the CoE will finish, some of the universities support that, i.e. the CoE has a planned Exit strategy: JyY will not pre-allocate additional funding for CoE exit. Vice rector promised to formulate a text to describe the general commitment of JyU for the CoE.
