Konstruktiokieliopin strukturalistiset juuret Nimistöntutkijan näkökulma 20.3.2015 Antti Leino

Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 3(16) Aluksi According to Croft and Cruse (2004), cognitive linguistics starts from three main hypotheses: Language is not an autonomous cognitive faculty. Grammar is conceptualization. Knowledge of language emerges from language use. The last of these is, in fact, a re-formulation of much earlier structuralist views (e.g. Bloomfield 1933), and the first two are not entirely alien to the tradition in Finnish onomastics witness, for instance, the opinion expressed by Zilliacus (2002/1975, 178) that the research of names is really cultural research. Antti Leino 2007
Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 4(16) Aluksi The lexicon is really an appendix of the grammar, a list of basic irregularities. Leonard Bloomfield 1933

Mitä analogia on?
Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 8(16) Konstruktiokielioppi Malli- vai konstruktiopohjainen nimeäminen Tarkempi tarkastelu voi jopa yksinkertaistaa kuvausta Vanhastaan kaksi rinnakkaista ilmiötä Liitynnäiset: paikka nimetään olemassaolevan mukaan Riihijärvi Riihilampi Vastakohtanimet: paikkojen kuvailevilla osilla kontrastisuhde Mustalampi Valkealampi Nämä mahdollista kuvata samalla tavoin

Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 11(16) Konstruktiokielioppi Yhteistä pohjaa The regular analogies of a language are habits of substitution. Suppose, for instance, that a speaker had never heard the form give Annie the orange, but that he had heard or spoken a set of forms like the following: Baby is hungry. Poor Baby! Baby s orange. Give Baby the orange! Papa is hungry. Poor Papa! Papa s orange. Give Papa the orange! Bill is hungry. Poor Bill! Bill s orange. Give Bill the orange! Annie is hungry. Poor Annie! Annie s orange................ He has the habit, now, the analogy, of using Annie in the same position as Baby, Papa, Bill, and accordingly, in the proper situation, will utter the new form Give Annie the Orange! Bloomfield 1933, 16.6
Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 12(16) Konstruktiokielioppi Yhteistä pohjaa If one accepts the view that a construction is a cluster of expressions, one will also end up with the thesis that all language use is analogical: new expressions are based on existing constructions, which are really shorthand for a number of existing expressions. This is close to how Bloomfield (1933) saw the creation of new expressions, and it is also not very far from the ideas of Fauconnier and Turner (2003), who consider conceptual integration and thus analogy as the basis of all human thought. Leino 2007, s. 49
Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 13(16) Konstruktiokielioppi Jotain edistystäkin»the statement of meanings is therefore the weak point in language-study, and will remain so until human knowledge advances very far beyond its present state.» Bloomfield 1933, 9.1
Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 14(16) Konstruktiokielioppi Jotain edistystäkin»the observer who, by this mass-observation, gives us a statement of the speech-habits of a community, can tell us nothing about the changes which are going on in the language of this as of every community. These changes could be observed only by means of a genuinely statistical observation through a considerable length of time; for want of this, we are ignorant of many matters concerning linguistic change.» Bloomfield 1933, 2.8
Antti Leino: Strukturalistiset juuret 20.3.2015 15(16) Lopuksi Mitä konstruktiokielioppi minulle merkitsee? muistutus: minun konstruktiokielioppini ei ole ainoa tulkinta radikaali konstruktiokielioppi + käsiteintegraatio + klusterointi Strukturalismin pojan paluun uudet seikkailut päivitetty nykytiedon mukaiseksi joissakin suhteissa täsmällisempi kuin alkuperäinen pystyy käsittelemään myös semantiikkaa osaa vastata Chomskyn kritiikkiin
