On Tuesday 23rd May at 6.00pm (18.00) at Kompassi Book Club meets at discuss Laurie R King's novel 'A letter of Mary'. All are welcome to join us but let us know first please. On Saturday 27th May from 11.00am to 6.00pm (11.00-18.00) Once again, we shall have a stall at the International Fair in Kuopio Market Place. We shall be selling Marmalade and second-hand English Books as usual. Federation of Finnish British Societies Events On Tuesday 4th April The British Ambassador had organised a Town Hall meeting for British citizens about Brexit in Helsinki. I attended this meeting and can report that not much happened. We were told that the purpose of this meeting was for Embassy staff to listen to us and report our issues back to London. It was well attended and many questions were asked; there were no answers. However further meetings will be arranged when more is known. Streams of the meeting are on the Embassy Facebook page. Finn-Brit Garden Trip in the Footsteps of Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf and the Crawleys (Downton Abbey), with a touch of lifestyle coaching. Two members from our Society have been able to join the trip. Other Events www.churchinkuopio.fi Welcome to the 2017 International Easter Service with Holy Communion. This will take place at 2.00pm (14.00) on Monday 17th April in Kuopio Cathedral. The service will be led by Revd. Tuomas Mäkipää of the Anglican Church in Finland, assisted by Revd.Panu Pohjolainen of the Kuopio Evangelical-Lutheran parishes. Revd. Tuomas Mäkipää will also preach the sermon. Join the UNICEF HUNGER CAMPAIGN 2017 UNICEFin valtakunnallisen Jano 2017-kampanjan keräyskohde on nälänhätä Afrikassa, jossa lähes 1,4 miljoonaa lasta on vaarassa kuolla nälkään ja 22 miljoonaa lasta tarvitsee välitöntä hhumanitaarista apua. Täällä Kuopiossa keräys toteutetaan perjantaina 28.4. klo 10-18 ja lauantina 29.4. klo 10-16 kahden tunnin vuoroissa yhdessä toisen lipaskerääjän kanssa. Keräyspaikat ovat Alkon myymälöiden edustalla Päivärannan Citymarketissa, Sokoksen alakerrassa, Prismassa, Matkuksen kauppakeskuksessa sekä torilla. Lippaat ja liivit haetaan H- talon UNICEF-pisteestä klo 9.30 alkaen ja palautetaan sinne keräysvuoron päätyttyä.
