Modelling crisis management for improved action and preparedness (CRISMA) Scientific and technological outcome (highlights) A simulation-based decision support system for modelling integrated crisis management, improved action and preparedness. The CRISMA System facilitates simulation and modelling of realistic crisis scenarios, possible response actions, and the impacts of crisis depending on both the external factors driving the crisis development and the various actions of the crisis management team. VTT s main new outcomes will include crisis management concepts, decision support and simulation models, and related economic and cost-benefit analysis. Contact person: anna-mari.heikkila@vtt.fi Funded from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme FP7/2007-2013 under grant agreement no. 284552 "CRISMA 9

Evacuation simulations VTT is the main developer and maintainer of the evacuation simulation module of the FDS code, called FDS+Evac. Evacuation simulations can be fully coupled with fire simulations to evaluate effects of fire on people (wayfinding, tenability to heat and toxic smoke gases) effects of people on fire development (e.g. opening or closing doors) Contact: timo.korhonen@vtt.fi 11
MAPS - Management principles and safety culture in complex projects Enhancing nuclear safety by supporting high quality execution of complex projects in the nuclear industry. The objectives: to identify the generic safety principles of managing complex projects in the nuclear industry; to clarify the cultural phenomena and their influence on safety culture and safety, and to facilitate management and safety culture in projects by providing practical tools and guidance on e.g. facilitating communication, organizing decision making in unexpected situations, encouraging openness, and distributing knowledge and lessons learned. HARMONISE Holistic approach to resilience and systematic actions to make large scale urban built infastructure secure Objectives: Creating an understanding of urban security and resilience on large scale urban built infrastructure Benefits: Enhancing the design, planning and development of resilient large scale urban built infrastructure. Promoting quality of life and a safer and more secure public realm for those living in, working in or visiting urban areas. Shape and enhancing the effectiveness (and cost) of urban security measures and thus the (financial) viability of integrated urban resilience strategies Project info: EU FP7, 2013-2016 More information: www.harmonise.eu, mervi.murtonen@vtt.fi 13

Value Function of Security Measures - ValueSec Project goal was to develop tool-set to support policy decision makers to balance decisions with overall policy objectives, political and ethical values and societal concerns. Project developed security decision assessment framework and analysis tools based on 3 pillar approach: risk reduction assessment, costbenefit assessment and qualitative criteria assessment. Tools can be adapted to assess impacts of decision alternatives in variety of context.
