Vastaa kaikkiin neljään kysymykseen. 1. Monissa tapauksissa biosignaalit täytyy jakaa homogeenisiin osiin spektrianalyysia ja signaalin karakterisointia varten. Millä nimellä tätä operaatiota kutsutaan? Miksi se tehdään? Selitä perusteellisesti minkälaisia menettelytapoja tähän käytetään. (2.5 p) 2. Kuvan 1 hengitysvirtaussignaali sisältää sähköverkkohäiriötä (50 Hz, power line interference) ja perustason huojuntaa (baseline drift). (3.5 p) a. Hahmottele signaalin tehospektri. b. Mitä suodatinta käyttäisit sähköverkkohäiriön poistoon signaalista? Piirrä suodatettu signaali. Hahmottele suodatetun signaalin tehospektri. c. Mitä suodatinta käyttäisit perustason huojunnan poistoon b-kohdan signaalista? Piirrä suodatettu signaali. Hahmottele suodatetun signaalin tehospektri. Kuva 1. Alla: Häiriöinen hengitysvirtaussignaali. Yllä: Esimerkki aaltomuodosta signaalissa. 3. Selitä yksityiskohtaisesti Pan-Tompkins algoritmin adaptiivinen kynnystysproseduuri huippujen etsimiseen (adaptive thresholding procedure for peak detection) (6 p)
4. Hengityskomponentin poistaminen sykesignaalista a. Mikä on EKG-signaalin takogrammi? Selitä signaalinkäsittelyvaiheet fysiologisesta lähteestä, takogrammiin ja ajallisesti tasavälistettyyn sykesignaaliin. Selitä käyttämäsi termit. Havainnollista vastaustasi lohkokaaviolla ja piirroksin. (2 p) b. EKG-signaalin lisäksi on mitattu myös hengityssignaali. Tiedetään, että matalilla hengitysnopeuksilla, RSA (Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia, kardiovaskulaarisen signaalin oskilloiva komponentti, joka muuttuu synkronisesti hengityksen mukana) osuu päällekkäin sykesignaalin matalataajuisen (LF, low frequency) osan kanssa. Sykesignaalin LF osaa käytetään ennustavana ja diagnostisena suureena. Tämän vuoksi on tärkeää erottaa sykesignaalista kaksi osaa: hengityksen aiheuttama osa ja loput. Suunnittele systeemi, joka pystyy, käyttäen hengityssignaalia, erottamaan RSA-komponentin takogrammista. Selitä ratkaisusi yksityiskohtaisesti. Piirrä lohkokaavio. Huomaa, että sisääntuleva data on epästationaarista. Tämän vuoksi suunnittelemasi systeemin pitää pystyä päivittämään parametreja sisäätulevan datan mukaisesti. (4 p)
Answer all four questions. 1. In many cases, we have to partition biomedical signals into homogenous parts for spectral analysis and signal characterization. What is this operation called? What is the reason for it? Explain thoroughly what kind of approaches we can use. (2.5 p) 2. Respiratory airflow signal in Figure 1 contains power line interference (50 Hz) and baseline drift. (3.5 p) d. Sketch the power spectrum of the signal. e. Which filter would you use to remove power line interference from the signal? Sketch the filtered signal. Sketch the power spectrum of the filtered signal. f. Which filter would you use to remove baseline drift from the signal from step b.? Sketch the filtered signal. Sketch the power spectrum of the filtered signal. Figure 1. Bottom: A noisy respiratory airflow signal. Top: an example waveform from the signal. 3. Explain in details the adaptive thresholding procedure for peak detection in the Pan-Tompkins algorithm (6 p)
4. Removing respiration component from heart rate signal c. What is a tachogram of the ECG signal? Describe the signal processing steps from the physiological source, through the tachogram to a temporally equally quantized heart rate signal, and define the terms used during your explanation. Illustrate your answers with block diagram and relevant drawings. (2 p) d. In addition to ECG, also the respiration signal is measured. It is known, that with low respiration rate, respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA, the oscillatory component in cardiovascular signals which changes synchronously with respiration) overlaps the low frequency (LF) range of the heart rate signal. The LF part of heart rate signal is used as a diagnostic or prognostic tool, therefore it is important to separate heart rate signal into two parts: the part induced by respiration, and the rest. Design a system capable of subtracting the RSA component from the tachogram with the use of the respiration signal. Explain your solution in details. Draw block diagram. Note, that the input data is nonstationary, therefore the designed system should be able to update its parameters according to the input. (4 p)
