I Helsiki there was the so called Achilles Games orgaised (first time i 1882), which comprised of several distaces, for example a mile ad a quarter mile competitios The first mass ruig evet i Filad was orgaized i a small tow called Paraie i southwest Filad i 1966 I the 1970 s there were ca 200 mass ruig evets orgaized every year I less tha 50 years the umber of ruig evets has grow tremedously A boom i evets was witessed i the 2000 s Nowadays there are approximately 600-700 ruig evets each year

Naiste Kymppi has bee orgaized sice 1984 ad it gathers early 20 000 participats every year. Developed by five active wome, who later o formed a corporatio aroud the evet. Major profit goes to support childre ad youth sports. Helsiki City Ru Helsiki City Ru (HCR) is the biggest ½ maratho ad oe of the most iteratioally orieted ruig evet i Filad with over 15 000 participats every year. The evet has bee orgaized sice 1994 by the Fiish Athletics Federatio. Helsiki City Maratho Helsiki City Maratho (HCM) is the biggest full maratho evet i Filad with some 4 000 6 000 participats each year.

It is a popular midsummer ruig evet i southwest Filad ad it Has bee orgaized sice 1993. The average amout of participats has bee ca 3 500 durig the recet years. This icludes full ad ½-maratho together with shorter ruig distaces ad roller skatig ad cyclig. The evet is orgaized by the local sport club. Paavo Nurmi Maratho Turku is the hometow of Paavo Nurmi, the 9 fold Olympic Gold Medalist. Paavo Nurmi Maratho offers three differet courses to explore Turku by foot - full maratho, half maratho ad 10km ru - i the footsteps of legedary Paavo Nurmi.
