History University of Turku was established in 1920 with the aid of donations from 22 040 citizens. The first Finnish university (private university until 1974) Turku University Foundation has operated in its present form since 1974, when the University of Turku was brought under state control and ownership. The resources received by the private university through donations provided the capital for a foundation intended to promote the acitivities ot the University of Turku. The Turku University Foundation today The sole purpose is to promote the activiteis of the University of Turku. In addition to general fund, 74 dedicated funds Total funds about 55 million euro Grants are awarded for research (and teaching) at the University of Turku From the general fund and dedicated funds are annualy distributed about 1.4 M (ca. 450 grants). In year 2019, 1.5 M will be granted.

Dedicated Funds 74 Dedicated Funds The capital of the unds has accumulated from donations from private individuals and companies. Donors can set up their own dedicated fund or add their donation to an existing fund. Dedicated funds have own rules. Donors can direct their donation to a specific field of research. Type of Grants (1/2) Young researcher grant For the doctoral thesis work Age 35 or under Year 2019 grant 1730 /month (if the grant period lasts uninterrupted for minimum of 4 months) / 1500 /month (under 4 months) Awarded for a maximum period of 12 months The recipient must be free form other employment Research grant (project) Personal grant to the applicant and/or member of the research group, purchased services, materials, other expenses (NO congress trips, computers, salaries) Purchased services, materials, other expenses usually paid via university Travel grants to abroad (congress and research trips) Approved costs: travelling, accommodation, registration fee (NO meals, travelling day allowances, poster printing, travelling costs of family members) May be paid via university if the grantee is university staff and the trip is after the grant decision date
