6 Agenda 7 Background PoDoCo

7 PoDoCo is a matchmaking program supporting strategic renewal of companies and employment of young doctors in the private sector Collaboration platform Bringing companies and postdocs together and facilitating novel meetings of postdocs and companies Matchmaking Finding matches between companies long term strategic needs and capabilities of young doctors Funding Offering a research grant for academic research having strategic importance for Finnish industry to boost the collaboration between postdocs and companies

8 To whom it is? 9 Young doctors who are interested in a career in industry Doctoral degree completed no more than four years previously Doctoral candidates who are graduating next 6-9 months may also apply for a grant. In such cases assurance from guiding professor must be enclosed with the application. Companies with desire to search opportunities lying beyond the current strategic horizon of the company

9 PoDoCo funding model PoDoCo program consist of two phases: 1) Research period - Sensing and investigating provocative futures Academic research funded by Foundations Foresight into rising and emerging phenomena Far-reaching knowledge enabling the strategic renewal of the companies PoDoCo foundation pool offers research grants for the research period (Not employed) 2) Targeted research period - Sense making to inspire the strategy From foresight to insight Long-term competitiveness Company paid (employed by company)

10 How it works? 11 PoDoCo 1. Marketing and information events in universities and companies 2. Screening research ideas from the field PoDoCo 3. Definition of key phenomena and potential research topics by companies 4. Searching talented post docs for identified potential research topics Post docs & PoDoCo 4. Post doc write a research plan LOI indicating interest towards the research plan from a company 5. Foundation pool evaluates the applications and makes a suggestion for each application 6. Each Foundation makes decision on grants Post docs & Companies 7. Academic research funded by Foundations Results openly and freely published during the grant period Post docs & Companies 8. Target is that Post doc continues the research in the company 6-12 moths (equal to grant period)
