Last major constraint, standardization will be ready 2010-2011. Main drivers for smart grid development are national commitments to environmental goals and emerging energy shortage which both drive toward improved energy efficiency. Other important market drivers are aging and unreliable power grids and large scale power generation through renewable energy which has perquisite of predictable energy demand and Investments are utility driven but financed by government subsidy programs (in form of tariff schemes or investment funds). Home appliances >400bn 7
Asia-Pacific alone represents some 30-40% of the immediate global market potential Global Smart Grid technology market is going to be +15 billion US dollar industry after 2010 when standardization and legislative requirements are finalized in key market regions. Smart meter roll-outs have been most important segment of smart grid since early 2000 but in the future majority of investments are directed to T&D networks upgrades to comply with smart grid requirements. 8
Large companies have entered the market but no-one can provide a complete solution nor interoperability at this stage 9

Smart Grid hankkeen veturiyrityksen valinnan perusteet Lähtökohdat veturiyrityksen paikallistamiseksi Näkemyksemme mukaan Teknologiateollisuuden ja koko Isot Teemat hankkeen tavoitteena on yhdistää yritysten osaamista yli toimialarajojen ja luoda uudenlaisia verkostorakenteita, joissa voidaan keskittyä vaativien ratkaisujen synnyttämiseen sekä uusien markkinoiden ja kansainvälisesti merkittävien läpimurtojen luomiseen. Näin ollen yhteistyöverkosto luomisen tavoitteena on synnyttää koalitioita, joilla on myös kiinnostusta ja edellytykset pitkäjänteisten yhteistyöhankkeiden synnyttämiselle projektien sijasta. Tässä tarkastelussa DigiEcoCity luo monipuolisuudessaan kokonaisvaltaisen ja kiinnostavan toteutusalustan Smart Grid ratkaisuja tuottavan yhteistyöryhmän kokoamiselle. Koko hankkeen veturiyrityksen valinta Hankkeen veturiyrityksen valitsemiseksi on pääasiassa kaksi vaihtoehtoa: 1.
