welcome to teamgym junior nordic championships 2018 We re happy to host the TeamGym Junior Nordic Championships and to welcome the best gymnasts of each age group as our guests. For many gymnasts, this competition is the first international event in their career and an excellent opportunity to meet athletes from other countries the people they are going to meet at various competitions and events in the future. TeamGym is known for its communal, encouraging atmosphere. In addition to the athletes, this atmosphere touches the audience, as the many spectators in their national colors loudly cheer the gymnasts to reach for their very best. Gathering the international gymnastics family to Joensuu increases enthusiasm towards the sport among athletes and us Finns alike. TeamGym is a small sport in Finland. We have 800 TeamGymnasts, but the Nordic Championships in Joensuu is a great opportunity to get involved in this brisk and versatile sport. We hope to see many new enthusiastic gymnasts register at the TeamGym clubs after this competition. Organizing this kind of event would not be possible without the help of dedicated clubs and associations and their active volunteers. Many thanks to the organizing clubs Joensuun Voimistelu ja Liikunta and Joensuun Kataja as well as to the hundreds of volunteers who have made this event possible. 3 Swedish Gymnastic Federation Mai Mönkkönen mikä ihmeen teamgym! TeamGymin juniorien PM-kisaan osallistuu tyttöjen ja poikien joukkueiden lisäksi sekajoukkueita. Joukkueet tekevät kolme erilaista kilpailusuoritusta: tanssillisen vapaaohjelman, volttisarjan volttiradalla ja korkeita voltteja trampetilla. Volttien on onnistuttava tasaiseen virtaan toinen toisensa perään, ja vapaaohjelma vaatii saumatonta yhteistyötä. TeamGym on vahvasti pohjoismainen laji se on kaikkein suosituin voimistelulaji Ruotsissa ja Tanskassa. TeamGym on peräisin Tanskasta, jossa se kehittyi viralliseksi kilpailulajiksi 1980-luvulla. Laji levisi nopeasti Suomeen ja myöhemmin myös muualle Eurooppaan. Suomessa TeamGym tunnettiin pitkään nimellä näytösvoimistelu. Vapaaohjelma permanto Vapaaohjelmassa korostuu joukkueen yhdenaikaisuus. Koreografian avulla luodaan tanssillinen kokonaisuus elementeistä, jotka ovat tuttuja voimistelusta, kuten hypyt ja piruetit. Tuomarit arvioivat paitsi elementtien vaikeutta ja suorituksen puhtautta, myös esimerkiksi sitä, miten voimistelijoiden rivit pysyvät ehjinä ja hypyt tulevat alas samaan aikaan. Volttirata Volttirata on 15 metriä pitkä ja siinä joukkueen valitsemat kuusi urheilijaa suorittavat kolme kierrosta. Voimistelijat ottavat kovan vauhdin ja tekevät sitten paitsi pakolliset liikkeet myös vaikeampia temppuja virtana, eli seuraava voimistelija lähtee liikkeelle jo kun toinen tekee omaa viimeistä volttiaan. Trampetti Trampetilla tehdään myös kolme kierrosta virtana, ensimmäisellä kierroksella kaikki tekevät samat hypyt ja sen jälkeen vaikeustaso nousee. Näissä kisoissa voidaan nähdä jopa kolmoisvoltteja. Mai Mönkkönen

6 teams denmark ghg teamgym roskilde teamgym Mix Boys GHG TeamGym have won the Danish Champions in the last two years in junior mix and this is their first time in the Nordics. Slagelse GF brings a relatively newly assembled team to the competition, as previously the girl and boys have been on their separate teams. For five team members this is their first year at junior level. TeamGym Aarhus comes to Joensuu as defending Nordic champions and five times Danish Champions. 11 out of the 12 team members are also on the national junior team. Roskilde TeamGym came in second in the Danish National Championships last year despite their problems with finding a place to train after their facilities burned down in a accidental fire. slagelse gf Girls Bolbro Gymnasterne may have young girls in the team, but they also have a lot of experience as three of the team members were at the 2016 Nordics in Odense where the team finished second. TeamGym Greve aims this year is to be among the top 3 at the Danish nationals which will be held in June 2018. 7 teams finland Girls Espoon Telinetaiturit Espoon Telinetaiturit is the reigning Finnish junior champion. Five of the team members are also members of the Finnish national team. Fliku -82 has determination and all team members work hard to meet their common goals. 8 teams iceland Girls Gerpla team has been training and competing together for the last two years, but the team has been focusing specifically on this competition from the beginning of last summer. Stjarnan girls team has one member who has international competition experience but all other aren newbies on the international arena. Boys Stjarnan competed at the Junior Nordics in 2016. Several of the boys were also part of the Icelandic junior boy s teams that competed at the European championships in Reykjavík in 2014. They are all also part of the selection group for the Icelandic junior national teams towards Europeans 2018. stjarnan girls gerpla stjarnan boys

9 holmen mix teams norway Mix Malvik team has learned to work hard for their sport as they train in a handball hall and rig their own equipment before and after each practise. Holmen has won the Junior Nordics Mixed in 2010, 2012 and 2014 and they are ready to take home the top medal again this year. Boys Holmen boys team has many gold medals from the junior nationals and participated also in the 2016 Nordics. Oslo Turnforening brings a boys team with three members who competed in the 2016 Nordics and will also be in the Europeans later this year. oslo turnforening girls Girls holmen boys Oslo Turnforening is Norway s oldest sports club and has been successful with TG in the past few years. Two of the team members competed in the 2016 Nordics and won bronze in the mixed teams. 10 gf fram teams sweden Mix Boys GF Fram is competing for the first time on the international level and only the second time as a mixed team constellation. Örebro GF has teams at all levels and for all age groups and are proudly representing Sweden in the Nordics! GF Brommagymnasterna has a team where three of the boys have international experience, but the whole team is looking forward to seeing what the other Nordic teams have to offer. GK Motus-salto are also mainly newbies at international arenas as only one of the boys has competed outside of Sweden before. gk motus-salto örebro gf Girls GT Vikingarna is a team a collaboration between the youth team @ungdomstruppen1 and our junior team @elittruppenfamily. 12 Local organisers paikalliset järjestäjät The local organising clubs offer a variety of possibilities for over 1000 eager gymnasts of all ages from toddlers to elderly. Both clubs have strong TeamGym teams and even a joint team! Many Joensuu-based gymnasts are also familiar to the international TeamGym family from the national teams. The clubs share training facilities and organising this event is a manifestation of their shared passion for TeamGym as a sport. We hope all of the athletes, members of delegations, judges and the audience feel that passion during the event. Finally, all volunteers you see today at the arena are either gymnasts or their family members from the two local clubs Joensuun Kataja and JoenVoLi!
