4 1 SAFETY 1 SAFETY 1.1 OPERATING SAFETY 1. Safety i s de pendent u pon th e a wareness, concern, and p rudence o f t hose who o perate o r service the equipment. Nev er al low minors to ope rate an y equipment. 2. It i s yo ur r esponsibility to read t his m anual and al l publications as sociated wit h thi s equipment ( Safety and O peration Manual, Engine M anual, a nd attachments/accessories i nstruction s heets). I f t he operator ca nnot r ead E nglish it is th e own er s responsibility to ex plain the material contained in this manual to them. 3. Learn the proper us e of the mac hine, th e loc ation and purpose of al l the c ontrols and gauges before y ou operate the equipment. W orking w ith unfamil iar equipment can lead to accidents. 4. Never allow anyone to operate or s ervice the mac hine or i ts attachments wi thout proper training and instructions; or w hile under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 5. Wear all the necessary protective clothing and personal safety devices to protec t your head, ey es, ears, hands, and feet. Operate the mac hine only in day light or in good artificial light. 6. Evaluate the terr ain to deter mine what accessories and attachments are needed to proper ly and s afely perform the j ob. O nly us e ac cessories and att achments approved by Jacobsen. 7. Stay alert for hol es i n the terr ain and other hi dden hazards. 8. Inspect the area where the equipment wil l be us ed. Pick up all the debris y ou c an fi nd before ope rating. Beware of ov erhead obs tructions (low tree l imbs, electrical wires, etc.) and also under ground obs tacles (sprinklers, pi pes, tree root s, etc.). Enter a new area cautiously. Stay alert for hidden hazards. 9. Never di rect dis charge of material towar d by standers, nor allow any one near the machine while in operation. The owner/operator can prevent and is res ponsible for injuries infli cted to thems elves, to by standers, and damage to property. 10. Do not carry p assengers. Keep by standers and pet s a safe distance away. 4! WARNING EQUIPMENT OPERATED IMPROPERLY OR BY UNTRAINED PERSONNEL CAN BE DANGEROUS. Familiarize yourself with the location and proper use of all controls. Inexperienced operators should receive instruction from someone familiar with the equipment before being allowed to operate the machine. 11. Never operate equipment that is not in per fect working order or i s wi thout dec als, guards, s hields, di scharge deflectors, or other protective devices securely fastened in place. 12. Never disconnect or bypass any switch. 13. Do not c hange the engine gov ernor s etting or overspeed the engine. 14. Carbon m onoxide in the ex haust fumes c an be fat al when inhaled. Never operate the eng ine without proper ventilation or in an enclosed area. 15. Fuel is highly flammable; handle with care. 16. Keep the engine clean. Allow the engi ne to c ool before storing and always remove the ignition key. 17. Disengage all driv es and engage p arking brak e befo re starting the engine (motor). Start the engine onl y when sitting i n operator s s eat, never whil e s tanding bes ide the unit. 18. Equipment mus t c omply with the latest federal, state, and l ocal requirement s when driven or transported on public roads. W atch out for tr affic when c rossing or operating on or near roads. 19. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. 20. Operate the mac hine up and down the face of s lopes (vertically), not across the face (horizontally). 21. To prevent tipping or loss of control, do not s tart or stop suddenly on slopes. Reduce speed when mak ing sharp turns. Use caution when changing directions. 22. Always us e the s eat bel t when oper ating mowers equipped with a Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS). Never use a seat belt when operating mowers without a ROPS. Accessory operator pr otective s tructures wi ll continue to be o ffered fo r a ll equ ipment c urrently covered. This al lows for the out fitting of any machines with out p revious RO PS in stallations or replacement of damaged structures. 23. Keep legs, arms, and body ins ide the seating compartment while the vehicle is in motion. 24. Disconnect battery and c ontroller elec trical c onnectors before performing any welding on this mower. This machine is to be operated and maintained as specified in this manual and is intended for the professional maintenance of specialized turf grasses. It is not intended for use on rough terrain or long grasses.

Under no circumstances should this equipment be operated without these devices securely fastened in place.! WARNING The Interlock System on this mower prevents the mower from starting unless the brake lever is engaged, reel switch is off, and traction pedal is in Neutral. The sy stem wil l s top the engine if the op erator lea ves the seat wi thout engaging the parking brake or setting the reel switch off. NEVER operate mower unless the Interlock System is working.! WARNING 1. Before leaving the operator s position for any reason: a. Return traction pedal to Neutral. b. Disengage all drives. c. Lower all implements to the ground. d. Engage parking brake. e. Stop engine and remove the ignition key. 2. Keep h ands, feet, an d c lothing away fr om m oving p arts. W ait for all movement to stop before you clean, adjust, or service the machine. 3. Keep the area of operation clear of all bystanders and pets. 4. Never carry passengers, unless a seat is provided for them. 5. Never op erate mo wing e quipment without the di scharge d eflector securely fastened in place. WARNING To prev ent inj ury, l ower implements to the ground, disengage all drives, engage parking brake, stop engine, and remove key from igni tion switch before making any adjustments or performing maintenance. Make s ure the mower is p arked on a solid and lev el surface. Never work on a mower that i s supported only by the jack. Always use jack stands. If only the front or rear of the mower i s r aised, pl ace chocks i n fr ont of and behind the wheels that ar e not raised. 1. Adjustments and maintenan ce s hould always be performed by a quali fied tec hnician. If pr oper adjustment cannot be m ade, c ontact an authori zed Jacobsen Dealer. 2. Replace, do not adjust, worn or damaged components. 3. Do not wear j ewelry or l oose fitting c lothing when making adjustments or repairs.! CAUTION Be careful to p revent en trapment of th e ha nds an d fingers between moving and fixed components of the machine. 4. Do not change gov ernor settings or ov erspeed the engine. 3.2 FAN BELT Inspect and ad just new be lt after first t en hours o f operation. Adjust every 100 hours thereafter. 1. Adjust al ternator pul ley s o bel t ( B) de flects 9/32 to 11/32 i n. ( 7 to 9 mm ) with a 22 lb. ( 10 k g) pus h a t midspan between pulleys. 2. If ten sion i s i ncorrect, loosen alt ernator m ounting bolts ( A), and adj ust alt ernator un til proper bel t tension is achieved. Tighten hardware (A). Adjust switch (G) so finger of actuating arm (F) is c entered over s ensing portion o f s witch. Switch c ontacts sh ould be c losed wit h tr action pedal in neut ral and open wi th mi nimal pedal travel in forward or reverse direction. b. Adjust 3WD switch (H) so contacts are open with traction pedal in neutral, and contacts close with minimal pedal travel in forward direction. If the mowe r creeps in ei ther direction when the engine is r unning, but the tr action peda l i s no t depressed, ad just s pring te nsion s o th at th e pe dal always returns to neutral when released. Note: The mower may creep when the hydraulic oil is c old. O perate t he m ower for 15 mi nutes before determining if adjustment is required. a. Lock r ear nuts and a djust fr ont n uts ( N) t o maintain 3 /8 i n. ( 9 mm) of ex tension in sp ring (O). b. Start the engine and c heck for creep the n repeat the process if necessary. 2. Use ex treme ca ution wh en m aking thi s a djustment as the wh eels will be of f the ground and th e engine will be running. 3. Engage p arking b rake, s top the en gine, open hoods, then lubricate all linkage pivot points. 4. Chock the r ear wh eel, and pla ce the fr ont of th e mower on jackstands. 5. Important: Screw (Q) must stop traction pedal before the internal st ops in t he hy drostatic transmission ar e contacted. 13 ADJUSTMENTS PARKING BRAKE 1. Check linkage cables and pivots to ensure they are operating smoothly. 2. Park the m ower on a 30 % slope ( 16.7 ) nea r th e bottom of the hill, with the front of the mower facing downhill. E ngage t he par king brake a nd s top th e engine. a. The mower s hould s tay o n t he hill without creeping. b. If t he brakes do no t h old, s tart t he engine, disengage the brake, and dr ive to the bo ttom of the hill.! CAUTION DO NOT disengage the brakes with the engine off. 3. With parking brake disengaged, turn adjusting knob in a c lockwise di rection, applying a nd releasing brake ev ery quarter tur n, u ntil a defi nite snap ov er center action is achieved. 4. Repeat the test on the hill if required. Note: Over adjustment causes hard lever action, but does not increase brake efficiency REAR LIFT ARM 1. Rear li ft arm pos ition is properly adj usted when the rear m ower bumpers a re p utting slight pressure against the underside of the foot rests. 2. Disconnect li ft c hain (T) fr om c rank and adj ust b all joint (U) as required. T U Figure 3I 3.12 DOWN PRESSURE 1. Place mowers in the Fixed Mode (Section 3.18) and lower the mowers onto a sc ale, capable of weighing 250 lb. ( 113 kg). The r ear roller of t he m ower m ust rest on the scale. 2. To adj ust pr essure o n r ear mo wer l oosen n uts ( V) and adjust to obtain the desired pressure. 3. To adjust pressure on front mowers, loosen nut (W) and ad just b olt ( X). M inimum t hread eng agement should be 1/2 in. (13 mm). 4. To maintain a co nsistent hei ght of cut, the dow n pressure s hould be ad justed e venly o n a ll thr ee mowers. 5. 14 3 ADJUSTMENTS 3.13 REEL TO BEDKNIFE (Pre-adjustment Check) 1. Check the r eel bearings for end pl ay or radial play. If there is any abnormal mov ement of the r eel, up and down or s ide to side, adjust or replac e components as needed.! CAUTION To prevent personal injury and damage to the cutting edges, handle the reel with extreme care. 2. Inspect the reel blades and bedk nife to ins ure good sharp edges without bends or nicks. a. The cutting edges of the reel blades and bedknife must be sharp, free of burr s, and show no signs of rounding off. b. The bedk nife and bedk nife bac king mus t be securely tighte ned. The bedk nife mus t be straight and sharp. c. A flat surface of 5/32 in. (4 mm) minimum must be maintained on the front fac e of the bedknife. Use a standard flat file to dress the bedknife. 3. If wear or d amage i s beyond the point where the reel or bedk nife c an be c orrected by the l apping proc ess, they must be reground. 4. Proper reel-to-bedk nife adjustment is critical. A gap of to i n. (0.025 to mm) must be maintained ac ross the enti re length of the reel and bedknife. 5. The reel mus t be p arallel to t he bedk nife. An improperly adjusted r eel will los e it s sharp edges prematurely and may res ult in serious damage to the reel and bedknife. 6. Grass conditions will also affect the adjustment. a. Dry, s parse c onditions will require a wider gap to prevent heat bui ldup and da mage to the reel and bedknife. b. High qualit y gras s with a good mois ture content requires a closer gap (near zero). 5-6 Leading Edge of Reel Figure 3L 3.14 REEL TO BEDKNIFE ADJUSTMENT 93 5/32 in. Normal Rotation 1. 15 ADJUSTMENTS CUTTING MODES 1. The mo wer may be oper ated in the F ixed Mo de or the Floating Mode. 2. Fixed M ode is gen erally use d fo r c utting heights greater than 1 in. (25 mm) and the mower does not require a fr ont roller unless the terrain is rough and uneven. If a front roller is required, the roller should be raised 1/4 in. (6 mm) higher than the rear roller and used for anti-scalp purposes only. 4. To convert the mower from Fixed to F loating Mode, remove h ardware ( H) fr om e ach si de o f the th ree mower frames. Install a front roller and store hardware (H) for future conversion to fixed mode. 5. To convert the mower from Floating to Fixed Mode, assemble har dware (H) as shown and r emove or raise the front roller. 3. Floating Mod e is gen erally used for cutting heights less th an one i nch ( 25 mm ) an d a fr ont r oller is required. If a 2-1/2 in. (63 mm ) s olid fr ont r oller is us ed, the cutting hei ght will range fr om 3/8 to 2-1/8 in. ( 9 to 54 mm). If a 3 in. ( 76 mm) gr ooved fr ont r oller is us ed, th e cutting hei ght will range fr om 3/8 to 2-1/4 in. ( 9 to 57 mm). H H H Figure 3O 3.16 CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT 1. Raise and lock the lift arms in transport mode. 2. For easier ac cess to the he ight adjusters on th e motor end of the front reels, Jacobsen recommends raising the front end of the mower just a fe w inches off the ground then, being careful not to damage the hydraulic hos es, tilt the front mowe rs 90 deg rees, and tether the mowers together. 3. On t he r ear mower ( center) r emove t he pi n a nd collar on the shaft and slide the mower backwards. 4. Always make the r eel-to be dknife adjustment (Sections 3.13 and 3.14) before making the cutting height adjustment. 5. Select F ixed or Floating Mod e and co nvert the mower accordingly. 6. 16 3 ADJUSTMENTS 3.17 REMOVING THE CUTTING UNIT 1. To prevent contamination of the hydraulic system, as well as loss of oil, do not disconnect the hoses from the motor.! CAUTION Disconnect lift springs before removing mowers. 2. Raise and lo ck th e l ift a rms in tr ansport mode (Section 3.4) and di sconnect the down pr essure springs. 3. Remove transport pin then lower the lift arms to the ground. 4. Remove hardware se curing moto r to dr ive housing and carefully pull the motor away. 5. Place mo tor in a clean plastic b ag an d co ver th e opening in the gear box. 6. Remove pin and collar fr om c enter ( rear) li ft ar m and pul l the center cu tting uni t away fr om th e mower. 7. Remove the hardware securing the front lift arms to the c utting units, an d s lide th e m owers ou t o f th e way CUTTING HEIGHT - FIXED MODE Follow the procedures outlined in Section Reposition the rear roller adjuster. a. For c utting heights from 3/8 to 1-3/4 i n. (9 t o 44 mm), use holes (M) on the mower frame, and two holes (shown in black) of the height adjuster (F) as shown. b. Do not use hole numbers 1 and 3. Refer to the chart below for correct hole of front roller adjuster to use. 2. Reposition the rear roller adjusters (F). a. For c utting heights from 3/8 to 1-3/4 i n. (9 t o 44 mm), use holes (M) on the mower frame, and two holes ( shown in black) of adj uster ( F) a s shown. b. For cutting hei ghts gr eater than 1-3/4 in. (44 mm), disassemble adjuster (F) and tu rn th e mounting br acket up side do wn; the n us e hol es (N) of t he frame, and th e two ho les ( shown i n black) of adjuster (F). 3. Jacobsen uses Grade 5 P lated bolts as standard, unless otherwise noted. For tightening plated bolts, use the value given for lubricated. 19 MAINTENANCE 4 4 MAINTENANCE 4.1 GENERAL! WARNING Before y ou c lean, adjust, or rep air this equi pment, disengage all dr ives, lower i mplements to the ground, engage p arking brak e, s top engine, and remov e k ey from ignition switch to prevent injuries Make s ure the mower is p arked on a solid and lev el surface. Never work on a mower that i s supported only by the jack. Always use jack stands. 1. Adjustment and maintenance should al ways be performed by a quali fied tec hnician. If pr oper adjustments c annot be made, c ontact an Auth orized Jacobsen Dealer. 2. Inspect the equipment on a regular bas is, es tablish a maintenance schedule, and keep detailed records. a. Keep the equipment clean. b. Keep all moving parts properly adjusted and lubricated. c. Replace w orn or damaged p arts befor e operating the machine. d. Keep all fluids at their proper levels. e. Keep s hields in pl ace and all hardwar e securely fastened. f. Keep tires properly inflated. 3. Do not wear j ewelry or l oose fitting c lothing when making adjustments or repairs. 4. Use the illustrations in the Part s Cat alog as referenc e for the disassembly and reassembly of components. 5. Recycle or dis pose of all haz ardous material s (batteries, fuel, l ubricants, anti -freeze, etc.) according to local, state, or federal regulations. 4.2 ENGINE IMPORTANT: A separate Engine Manual, prepared by the engine manufacturer, is supplied with this mower. Read the Engine Manual carefully until you are familiar with the operation and maintenance of the engine. Proper attention to the engine manufacturer s directions will assure maximum service life of the engine. To order replacement engine manuals contact the engine manufacturer. 5. Refer to Section 6.3 and Engine Manual for s pecific maintenance intervals. If the i njection pump, i njectors, or the fuel s ystem require service, contact an authorized Jacobsen Dealer. The proper br eak-in of a new engine can mak e a considerable di fference to the performance and l ife of the engine. NOTICE The mower is des igned to operate and cut most efficiently at the pres et governor setting. Do not change the engine governor settings or overspeed the engine. During the break following: -in per iod, J acobsen rec ommends the 1. During the first 50 h ours of operation, a new engine should be allowed to reach an operating temperature of at least 140 F (60 C) prior to operation at full load. 2. Check the engine oil level twice daily during the first 50 hours of operation. Higher than normal oil consumption is not uncommon during the initial break-in period. 3. Change engi ne oil and oil filter el ement af ter firs t 50 hours of operation. 4. Check and adjust fan and alternator belts. 19

20 4 MAINTENANCE 4.3 ENGINE OIL Check the engine oil at the start of each day, before starting the engine. If the oil level is low, remove oil filler cap, and add oil as required. Perform initial oil change after first 50 hours of operation and every 100 hours thereafter. See Engine Manual. Safe Operating Range Use only engine oils with API classification CD/CE. Above 77 F (25 C) SAE 30W or SAE10W30/10W40 32 to 77 F (0 to 25 C) SAE 20W or SAE 10W30/10W40 Below 32 (0 C) SAE10W or SAE 10W30/10W40 Figure 4A 4.4 AIR FILTER Check the service indicator daily. If red band appears in the window (C) replace the element. Do not remove the element for inspection or cleaning. Unnecessary remov al of the fi lter i ncreases the ri sk of injecting dust and other impurities into the engine. When service is required, first clean the outside of the filter housing; then remove the old element as gently as possible and discard. 1. Carefully c lean the i nside of the fil ter hous ing without allowing dust into the air intake. 2. Inspect the new el ement. Do not us e a damaged element and never use an incorrect element. 3. Assemble the new el ement and mak e s ure it s eats properly. Reset the indicator by depressing button (D). 4. Reassemble c ap mak ing s ure i t s eals c ompletely around the fi lter hous ing. 21 MAINTENANCE FUEL Handle fuel with care - it is highly flammable. Us e an approved container, the spout must fi t i nside the fuel fi ller neck. Avoid using cans and funnels to transfer fuel.! WARNING Never remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank, or add fuel, when the engine is running or while the engine is hot. Do not s moke when handling fuel. Nev er fill or drain the fuel tank indoors. Do not spill fuel and clean spilled fuel immediately. Fill the fuel tank to within 1 in. (25 mm) of the bottom of the filler neck. Store fuel according to local, state, or federal ordinances and recommendations from your fuel supplier. Never overfill or allow the tank to become empty. Check fuel lines and clamps every 50 hours. Replace fuel lines and clamps at the first sign of damage. Use clean, fresh, #2 Diesel fuel. Minimum Cetane rating 45. Refer to Engine Manual for additional information. Never handle or store fuel containers near an open flame or any device that may create sparks and ignite the fuel or fuel vapors. Be sure to reinstall and tighten fuel cap securely. 4.6 FUEL SYSTEM Refer to Section 6.3 for specific maintenance intervals. Before replac ing any fil ter, thoroughly c lean t he filter housing a nd the area around the fi lter. Dirt mus t not be allowed to enter into fuel system. For diesel engines, bleed the fuel system after the fuel filter and lines have been removed, or the fuel t ank has become empty. See Engine Manual. 4.7 BATTERY Make absolutely certain the i gnition switch is OFF and the key has been removed before servicing the battery.! CAUTION Always use insulated tools, wear protective glasses or goggles a nd protective c lothing wh en working wit h batteries. Y ou m ust r ead and o bey al l b attery manufaturer s instructions. Tighten c ables s ecurely to battery terminal s and apply a light coat of silicone dielectric grease to terminals and cable ends to prev ent c orrosion. Keep v ent c aps and terminal covers in place. 2. When remov ing the battery, al ways remov e the ground, BLACK, negative (-) c able first, and the RED, positive (+) cable last. 3. Make sure battery is properly installed and s ecured to the battery tray.! WARNING Battery posts, ter minals, a nd r elated a ccessories contain l ead and l ead compounds, chemicals k nown to the S tate of Ca lifornia to ca use cancer an d reproductive ha rm. Wash your hands after handling. Check the electrolyte level every 100 hours. Keep the cable ends, battery, and battery posts clean. Verify battery polari ty before c onnecting or dis connecting the battery cables. 1. When installing the batter y, always assemble the RED, positive (+) battery cable first, and the ground, BLACK, negative (-) battery cable last. 21

22 4 MAINTENANCE 4.8 JUMP STARTING Before attempting to jump s tart the mower, c heck the condition of the discharged battery. Section 4.7! WARNING Batteries gener ate explosive hy drogen gas. To reduc e the chance of an ex plosion, avoid creating sparks near battery. Always connect the negative jumper cable to the frame of the mower wit h the di scharged battery, away from the battery. When connecting jumper cables: 1. Stop the engine on the vehicle with a good battery. 2. Connect RED jumper cable to the pos itive (+) terminal on the good battery and to the pos itive (+) terminal on the discharged battery. 3. Connect the BL ACK jumper c able fr om the negati ve (-) terminal on the good battery to the frame of the mower with the discharged battery. After cables have been c onnected, start the engine on the vehicle with the good battery then start the mower. 4.9 CHARGING BATTERY! WARNING Charge bat tery in a well ventilated area. Batt eries generate explosive gases. To prevent an explosion, keep any device that may create sparks or flames away from the battery. To prev ent inj ury, s tand away from battery when the charger is turned on. A damaged battery could explode. 1. Refer to Section 4.7. Read the Battery and Charger s manual for specific instructions. 2. Whenever pos sible, remov e the battery from the mower before charging. If battery is not s ealed, check that the electrolyte covers the plates in all the cells. 3. Make sure the charger is Off Then connect the charger to the battery termi nals as specified in the c harger s manual. 4. Always turn the c harger Off before dis connecting charger from the battery terminals HYDRAULIC HOSES 1. Always lower im plements to ground, di sengage al l drives, engage parking brake, stop engine, and remove key before inspecting or disconnecting hydraulic lines or hoses. 2. Check visible hos es and tubes dai ly. Look for wet hoses or oil s pots. Replace wor n or damaged hoses and tubes before operating the machine. 3. The replacement tube or hoses must be routed in the same path as the ex isting hose, do not mov e clamps, brackets, and ties to a new location. 4. Thoroughly ins pect all tubes, hos es, and c onnections every 250 hours. 22! WARNING To prev ent s erious inj ury fr om hot, high pres sure oil, never use your hands to check for oil leaks, use paper or cardboard. Hydraulic fluid es caping under pres sure can have sufficient forc e to penetrate s kin. If flui d is injected into the skin it must be surgically removed within a few hours by a doc tor familiar with thi s form of inj ury or gangrene may result. IMPORTANT: The hydraulic system can be permanently damaged if the oil becomes contaminated. B efore di sconnecting any hydraulic component, c lean the ar ea around fi ttings and hos e ends to keep impurities out of the system. a. Before disconnecting any hydraulic component, tag or mar k the loc ation of eac h hos e then c lean the area around the fittings. b. As you disconnect the component, be pr epared to assemble plugs or caps to the hose ends and open ports. This will keep impurities out of the hydraulic system and also prevent oil spills. c. Make sure O rings are clean and hose fittings are properly seated before tightening. d. Keep the hos e fr om twis ting. T wisted hos es can cause couplers to loosen as the hose flexes during operation resulting in oil leaks. e. Kinked or tw isted hos es c an res trict the oi l flow causing the s ystem to malfunction and the oil to overheat and also lead to hose failure.

23 MAINTENANCE HYDRAULIC OIL Refer to Section 6.3 for specific maintenance intervals. The hy draulic res ervoir on thi s m achine is fi lled with Jacobsen Greens Care 68 Biodegradable fluid. Drain and replace the hydraulic oil after a major component failure, or if you notice the presence of water or foam in the oil, or a rancid odor (indicating excessive heat). Always replace the hydraulic filter when changing oil. To change hydraulic oil: 1. Clean the area around the oil cap to prevent impurities from entering and contaminating the system. a. Oil temperature s hould be at 60 to 90 F (16-32 C). Do not check oil level when oil is hot. b. The hy draulic oil level should nev er fall below the lower line on the dipstick or be above the top line on dipstick. 2. Remove drain plug from bottom of tank and loosen or remove breather cap on top of tank. C heck and clean the breather cap, replace as necessary. 3. After oi l has drained i nstall drain p lug and fi ll with Jacobsen GreensCare 68 Biodegradable Fluid. 4. Purge air from system. a. Operate all mower functions for about 5 minutes to purge ai r out of the system and s tabilize the oi l level. b. Once the level has stabilized and the air is purged, fill the tank to the full mark on dipstick HYDRAULIC OIL FILTERS The hydraulic system is protected by two 10 micron filters. To replace hydraulic oil filter: 1. Remove the old filters. 2. Fill new fil ter wi th oil then ins tall new filter. Hand tighten only. 3. Operate engine at idle speed with hy draulic system in neutral for five minutes. 4. Check hydraulic oil level in reservoir and fill to full mark on dipstick ELECTRICAL SYSTEM! CAUTION Always tu rn the ig nition swi tch of f and r emove th e negative ba ttery cable ( BLACK) before i nspecting or working on the electrical system. 6. Do not wash or pres sure s pray around el ectrical connections and components. General precautions that can be taken to reduc e electrical problems are listed below. 1. Make c ertain al l terminals and connections are c lean and properly secured. 2. Check the operator bac kup s ystem, fu ses, and c ircuit breakers regularly. If the operator bac kup do es not func tion properly and the problem cannot be corrected, contact an authorized Jacobsen Dealer. 3. Keep the wire harnes s and all indi vidual wi res away from moving parts to prevent damage. 4. Make sure the s eat switch harness is connected to the main wire harness. 5. Check the battery and battery charging circuit. 23

24 4 MAINTENANCE 4.14 MUFFLER AND EXHAUST! WARNING Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide that is toxic and can be fatal when inhaled. NEVER operate an engine without proper ventilation. To protect from carbon monoxide pois oning, ins pect the complete ex haust system regul arly and always replac e a defective muffler. If you notice a change in the color or sound of the ex haust, stop the engine immediately. Identify the problem and hav e the system repaired. Torque all ex haust manifold hardware ev enly. Tighten or replace exhaust clamps TIRES 1. Keep tires proper ly i nflated to prolong ti re l ife. Chec k inflation pressure while the tires are c ool. Inspect tread wear. 2. Check t he pressure wi th an ac curate, l ow pressure tire gauge. 3. Keep tires inflated to: Front: psi ( BAR). Rear: psi ( BAR).! CAUTION Unless yo u hav e the proper training, tools, an d experience, DO NOT attempt to mount a tire on a rim. Improper mou nting c an pr oduce an e xplosion wh ich may result in serious injury WHEEL MOUNTING PROCEDURE! WARNING Make s ure the mower is p arked on a solid and lev el surface. Never work on a mower that i s supported only by the jack. Always use jack stands. If only the front or rear of the mower i s r aised, pl ace chocks i n fr ont of and behind the wheels that ar e not raised. 1. Remove dirt, grease, and oil from stud thread. Do not lubricate threads. 2. Position wheel on hub and inspect to insure full contact between mounting s urface of wheel and hub or brak e drum. 3. Finger tighten all har dware then torque har dware in criss-cross order; always tighten nut s in the top position. 4. Check and r etorque dail y unti l tor que i s maint ained, ft.lbs. ( Nm). 24

25 MAINTENANCE CARE AND CLEANING Wash the mower and implements after each use. Keep the equipment clean. NOTICE Do not wash any portion of the equipment while it is hot. Do not use high pressure spray or steam. Use cold water and automotive cleaners. 1. Use compressed air to clean engine and radiator fins. A special blow gun is available through Jacobsen Dealer. 2. Use only fresh water for cleaning your equipment. NOTICE Use of salt water or affluent water has been known to encourage rust and c orrosion of me tal parts resulting in premature d eterioration or fa ilure. D amage o f th is nature is not covered by the factory warranty. 3. Do not spray water di rectly at the i nstrument p anel, ignition s witch, c ontroller, any oth er el ectrical components, bearing housings, or seals. 4. Clean all plastic or rubber trim with a mild s oap solution or us e c ommercially av ailable vinyl/rubber cleaners. 5. To mai ntain the origi nal high lus ter of the fiberglass, periodically wax with a good gr ade of O ne-step cleaner wax. Repair damaged metal surfaces and use Jacobsen touch-up paint. Wax the equipment for maximum paint protection.! CAUTION Clean gr ass and d ebris fr om cu tting uni ts, dr ives, muffler, and engine to prevent fires.! WARNING NEVER use y our hands to clean c utting units. Us e a brush to remove grass clippings from blades. Blades are extremely sharp and can cause serious injuries RADIATOR! WARNING To prevent serious bodily injury from hot coolant or steam blow-out, never attempt to remove the radiator cap while the engine is running. Stop the engine and wai t until it is cool. Ev en then, us e ex treme c are when remov ing the cap. Check and tighten the fan belt. Replace clamps and hoses every two years. If you have to add coolant more than onc e a month, or add more than one quart at a ti me, have a authorized Jacobsen Dealer check the cooling system.! CAUTION Do not pou r c old wat er int o a ho t r adiator. Do no t operate en gine wi thout a p roper c oolant mi xture. Install cap and tighten securely. Check coolant l evel da ily. Radi ator should be f ull and recovery bottle should be up to the cold mark. Drain and refill annually. Remove the radiator cap, open the engine block drain and the radiator drain. Empty and c lean the recovery bottle. Mix c lean water with ethy lene glycol bas ed anti -freeze for the c oldest ambi ent temperatur e. Read and fol low the instructions on the anti-freeze container and engine manual. Keep radiator ai r passages clean. Use compressed air (30 psi maximum) to clean the fins. 25

26 4 MAINTENANCE 4.19 BACKLAPPING! WARNING To prev ent inj ury, k eep hands, feet, and clothing away from rotating reels. When the backlap switch is in the BACKLAP position, the reels will turn without the operator in the seat. Carbon Monox ide in exhaust fumes c an be fatal when inhaled, nev er operate an engine wi thout pr oper ventilation. Check the r eel and bedk nife to determine if backlapping or grinding will restore the cutting edge. If wear or damage is bey ond the point where the c utting edges can be c orrected by the lapping process, they must be reground. To Backlap: 1. Adjust reel to bedk nife as des cribed in Sections 3.13 and Obtain and engage the mechanics (backlap) key. a. Make absolutely certain your feet and clothing are far away from the reel. b. Make s ure the p arking brak e is Eng aged, reel switch is Off, backlap switch is Off, and the traction pedal is in Neutral. c. Start the engine, turn the mechanics key to Backlap then engage the reel switch. If any of the reels turn, adjust nut (A) to stop the reel. 3. Turn nut ( A) on the reel to be bac klapped s o the reel turns in rev erse. A djust the reel speed to RPM. a. Apply lapping compound with a long handle brush to hi gh s pots fi rst then along ent ire length of the reel. b. Continue lappi ng and at th e s ame t ime mak e a slight adjustment on the reel until there is a uniform clearance along the full length of the cutting edges. c. When the bl ades have been ev enly honed, turn adjusting nut (A) to ne utral. Carefull y and thoroughly remove all lapping compound from reels and bedk nife before running the reel in for ward direction. d. Disengage reel s witch and turn bac klap s witch to Off. 4. Reset reel motors to forward rot ation. If reel s peeds vary, check nut (A) to insure it is turned completely to full forward rotation. 5. Remove and store the backlap key. A Figure 4C 26

27 MAINTENANCE STORAGE General 1. Wash the mower thoroughly and lubri cate. Repair and paint damaged or exposed metal. 2. Inspect the mower, ti ghten all har dware, replac e w orn or damaged components. 3. Drain and refill radiator. 4. Clean the t ires thoroughly and store the mower s o the load is of f the tires. If mower is not on jack s tands, check tires at regular interv als and reinfl ate as necessary. 5. Keep the mac hine and al l i ts ac cessories c lean, dry, and protected from the elements during storage. Never store equipment near an open fl ame or s park whi ch could ignite fuel or fuel vapors. Battery 1. Remove, clean, and store battery in upright position in a cool, dry place. 2. Check and recharge battery every 60 to 90 days while in storage. 3. Store batteries in a c ool, dry place. To reduce the s elf discharge rate, room temperatur e should not be abov e 80 F (27 C) or fal l below 20 F (- 7 C) to prev ent electrolyte from freezing. Engine (General) 1. While the engine is warm, remove the drain plug, drain the oil from the c rankcase, and c hange oil filter. Install drain plug and refill with fresh oil. Let engine cool before starting. 2. Clean exterior of engine. Paint exposed metal, or apply a light coat of rust preventative oil. 3. Add a fu el co nditioner or bi ocide to p revent ge lling or ba cterial gr owth i n fu el. See y our l ocal fuel supplier. Cutting Units 1. Wash the cutting units thoroughly, then repair and paint any damaged or exposed metal. 2. Lubricate all fittings and friction points. 3. Backlap th e reels th en bac k the reel away from the bedknife. Apply a light c oat of rus t prev entative oil to the sharpened edges of the reel and bedknife. After Storage 1. Check and reinstall battery.! CAUTION To prevent personal injury and damage to th e cutting edges, handle the reel with extreme care 2. Check or service fuel filter and air cleaner. 3. Check the radiator coolant level. 4. Check oil l evel i n t he engi ne c rankcase and hydraulic system. 5. Fill the fuel tank with fresh fuel. Bleed the fuel system. 6. Make certain that the tires are properly inflated. 7. Remove all oi l from the r eels and bedk nife. Adj ust bedknife and cutting height. 8. Start and operate the engine at 1/2 throttle. Allow enough tim e for the engine to become pr operly warmed and lubricated.! WARNING Never operate the engine without proper v entilation; exhaust fumes can be fatal when inhaled. 27

Parking brake disengaged, traction pedal not in Neutral or reel/ 3WD switch on. 2. Battery low on charge or defective. Engine hard to start or runs poorly. 1. Check operator back-up system and start-up procedure. 2. Inspect condition of battery and battery connections. 3. Fuel tank empty or dirty. 3. Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter. 44 1 SÄÄDÖT 1.13 TELA KIINTEÄÄN VEITSEEN (Säätöä edeltävä tarkastus) 1. Tarkasta telalaakereiden päittäis- tai säteisvälys. Jos telassa havaitaan minkäänlaista epänormaalia liikehdintää yläs ja a las tai sivulta sivulla, säädä osat tarvittavalla tavalla tai vaihda ne uusiin.! Jos t ela t ai v eitsiterä o n k ulunut t ai v ahingoittunut niin vakavasti, että hiertämisestä ei ole apua, ne o n hiottava uudelleen. 4. Löysennä m utteria (C) 1/4 ki erroksen verran leikkuuyksikön molemmissa päissä. a. Käännä säädintä (A) 1/16-1/8 kierrosvälein. b. Kun tel a o n s äädetty oi kein s uhteessa veitsiterään, telan pitäisi pyöriä vapaasti ja sinun pitäisi py styä le ikkaamaan sa nomalehteä ko ko telan pituudelta pi tämällä l ehteä 90 a steen kulmassa veitsiterän suhteen. 45 SÄÄDÖT LEIKKUUTILAT 1. Leikkuria voidaan käyttää kiinteässä tilassa ja kelluvassa tilassa. 2. Jos käytetään 63 mm k iinteää e tutelaa, leikkuukorkeus vaihtelee välillä 9-54 mm. Jos k äytetään 76 mm ur itettua etutelaa, leikkuukorkeus vaihtelee välillä 9-57 mm. 4. Leikkurin va ihtamiseksi kiinteästä ti lasta kelluvaan tilaan, p oista laitteisto (H) kolmen l eikkurikehyksen kummaltakin puolelta. Asenna etutela ja pidä laitteisto (H) tallella kiinteään tilaan vaihtamista varten tulevaisuudessa. 5. Leikkurin va ihtamiseksi kelluvasta ti lasta kiinteään tilaam, kokoonpane laitteisto (H) k uvan os oittamalla tavalla ja poista etutela tai kohota telaa. H H H Kuva 1O 1.16 LEIKKUUKORKEUDEN SÄÄTÖ 1.
