Biohiili Biocoal - Puuhiili Mitä siitä tiedetään? Laadittiin kirjallisuuskatsaus biohiilen käytöstä Biocoal production, properties and uses, Report 1/2012 /BalBic Biohiili on kiinteää polttoainetta, joka on valmistettu biomassasta pyrolyysiprosessissa. (= Puuta kuumennetaan hapettomassa tilassa, >300 C kiinteä tuote on hiili) Todettiin, että biohiiltä voidaan käyttää laajasti soveltaen mm. maaperän puhdistamiseen, vesien puhdistamiseen, pyrolyysiöljyjä biopolttoaineiksi, puuhiiltä metallurgiaan, kemian teollisuuteen jne. Torrefioitu puu on mielletty energialaitoksen polttoon Kiinnostus pyrolyysiprosessiin on lisääntynyt voimakkaasti viimeisen 10 vuoden aikana Erilaisia tuotantoteknologioita oli tarjolla laajalti, mutta eivät ole sellaisena sopivia teolliseen tuotantoon, varsinkaan jatkuvaan toimintaan 5.6.2013 7

WP2 Raaka-aineiden tutkiminen Potassium is found mostly in needles. The concentration increases dramatically in pyrolysis above 300⁰C. Only needles contain significant amounts of chlorine. Concentration of chlorine decreases slightly in pyrolysis. 5.6.2013 10
WP2 Raaka-aineiden tutkiminen Most dramatic mass loss occurs during the endothermic reaction (temperatures below 300 C) due to cellulose and hemicellulose decomposition. Hemicellulose starts to degrade in temperature of 230 C, cellulose following at 260 C and lignin above 300 C. ²,³ Higher mass yield of pine in lower temperatures (250 and 300 C) is the result of pine s lower hemicellulose share. Mass yield begin to stabilise after 350 C. Mari Rautiainen,MSc student 5.6.2013 11

Biohiilen logistiset kuljetukset On vain muutamia tutkimusjulkaisuja, jotka olisi tehty biohiilen kuljettamisesta Suomessa kivihiilen kuljetukset sisämaahan tehdään pääasiassa rekka-autoilla satamasta polttolaitokselle Esimerkiksi Lahden Energia Ltd. and Rovaniemen Energia Ltd. toimittavat hiilen rekkakuljetuksina vaikka on olemassa suora raideyhteys Tutkimuksessa oletettiin, että turpeen ja hakkeen kuljetukseen käytetty kalusto soveltuu myös biohiilen kuljetukseen VR Transpoint ei nykyisin kuljeta kivihiiltä.
