VANTAA Tourism Statistics December 213 www.vantaa.fi/elinkeinopalvelut Overnight stays down 2% in 213 The volume of overnight stays registered in December (59,4) by Vantaa's accommodation providers decreased 2.6% from one year ago. The reduction was fully due to the domestic segment (36,8, - 9.2%), while international stays (22,6) were up 1.5%. The biggest share of international stays was attributable to Russia (4,5, +14%), with Sweden (1,7, +6%), UK (1,7, -17%), Japan (1,6, +96%) and China (1,5, +72%) holding the next places. The aggregate number of overnight stays (79,7) reduced in Vantaa by 2.3% in 213. All of this reduction was due to the domestic segment (489,4, -7.%), while international stays (31,3) were up 6.3%. The largest groups of international overnights came from Russia (43,, -6%), China (36,2, +16%), UK (21,6, +9%), Sweden (2,5, -9%), Germany (18,, +1%) and USA (18,3, +5%). International overnights up 13% in early winter In early winter 213-14 (November-December), overnight stays (124,6) in Vantaa reduced by 1.1% from the previous winter. Domestic stays (77,6) were down 8.1%, while international stays (46,6) increased 13.3%. Stays by Russian travellers (8,, +9%) topped the international statistics with Sweden (4,, +11%), China (3,4, +118%) UK (3,, +8%) and Germany (2,7, +8%) holding the next places. Overnight stays were down.9% in Vantaa in summer 213 (May- October). The reduction was once again fully attributable to the domestic segment (249,3, -6.2%) with international stays (169,3) up 8.%. The largest amounts of international overnight visitors came from China (+119%), Russia (-1%), Japan (+74%), USA (+8%), UK (+23%) and Germany (+9%). Domestic leisure travel decreases Overnight stays in Vantaa by leisure travellers reduced by 48,9 in 213, while business stays were up 18,9 and stays by other types of travellers increased by 11,1. Leisure travel stays by international travellers were up (+8,1), but the focal point in the volume growth of business travel was in domestic segment. In 213, overnight stays were categorised as follows: leisure time 44.9%, business related 52.3%, other 2.7%. In domestic stays, Vantaa was fourth after Turku and just above Kuopio. In the international segment, Vantaa came second just after Helsinki. Occupancy rate and average price decrease In 213, the room occupancy rate of all accommodation providers was 67.6% in Vantaa, i.e. 1.4 percentage points lower than one year ago (69.%). The December occupancy rate (62.5%) fell slightly below the rate recorded one year ago (62.9%). Nationwide, the room occupancy rate of all accommodation providers was 47.7% in 213. The average price of an overnight stay was 65.21 in 213, down about one euro and fifty cent from a year ago ( 66.74). The average price in December ( 61.4) was just under a euro less than one year ago ( 62.44). Nationwide, the average price of an overnight stay was 47.66 in 213. Value of accommodation sales falls The value of accommodation sales in Vantaa came to 51.56m in 213; this is about 1.66m less than in the previous year ( 53.22m). In turn, the value of accommodation sales recorded in 212 was some 3.12m higher than in the previous year ( 5.1m). Vantaa's registered accommodation capacity was 4,2 beds in December, which is 12 (+.3%) beds more than one year ago. The average capacity for 213, 3,993 beds, was 6 (-.1%) lower than in 212. * Incl. accommodation providers (hotels, hostels, holiday villages, camping grounds, etc.) with at least 1 rooms or cottages.
