III / 26 HELSINKI TOURISM STATISTICS Market Report / 26 Nights continue to rise strongly Visitors to Helsinki are expected to show a clear rise this year. Similar growth took place in 1995 when Finland joined the European Union, in 1999 when Finland held the presidency of the EU and in 2 when Helsinki was one of the European Cities of Culture. This year in - nights rose by over 8% (+ 4,). Growth was recorded on both the international and domestic markets. Compared with the last record year 2 (522, nights in -) we are now ahead by over 5, nights. Foreigners staying longer The increase in foreigners' average length of stay is encouraging. In it was 2.7 nights or longer than ever before in the month of. During the winter season the average length of stay has ordinarily been less than 2 nights. Domestic visitors' average length of stay, on the other hand, has steadily shrunk in the present decade and is now 1.42 nights. Further growth in business travel Growth in nights and visitors has mainly been due to business travel. Leisure travel declined in. In previous years leisure travel has generally accounted for around 6, nights in, but this year the figure was only 54,. This was partly due to the fact that Easter fell in this year. Average price of accommodation* on a high level: 81.49 EUR / night (74.55 EUR in 25 and 78.65 EUR in 24). Air traffic continues to grow in -: The number of passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport: international traffic + 9.6%, domestic traffic + 4.9%.
