LAPPEENRANTA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY Publication Committee October, 2010 INSTRUCTIONS FOR PUBLISHING IN THE REPORT SERIES Report series The Lappeenranta University of Technology report series are considered either faculty or unit-specific. The respective faculty/unit is responsible for the contents as well as for the printing costs. Regarding document layout and distribution, the recommendations of the Publishing Committee should be respected. The Publication Committee gives permission to establish a report series and approves the title of the series. The Publication Committee recommends that the title of a report series should include the following information: the name of the publishing faculty/unit followed by the case-specific characterization: Research Report Report Lecture Notes Manual Acceptance for publication Financing Research results and descriptions, lecture notes etc. related to the scientific fields of the respective faculty/unit can be published in the report series. Each faculty/unit approves publications to its report series itself and also decides the number of copies printed. The publishing faculty/unit is responsible for the publication costs of the report series. Publication procedure Faculty/units are responsible for printing of their own publications. The University Library provides the publications with ISBN and ISSN codes but the serial numbers are given by the publishing faculty/unit. 1
Layout The Publication Committee recommends a standard layout for the report series to be used. The Publication Committee also recommends that the cover page and the title page should include the following information 1) front cover: name of the university in Finnish and in English faculty and department in Finnish faculty and department in English title of the publication series in Finnish and in English, serial number author(s) and title of the publication 2) title page (model enclosed): top of page: title of the publication series in Finnish and in English, serial number center of page: author(s) and title of publication bottom of page: address of the unit, ISBN- and ISSN-codes and publishing location and year 3) abstract: The Publication Committee recommends that the abstract of the publication is at least in English. A model of the abstract structure is enclosed. 4) back cover: ISBN of the printed version ISBN of the PDF-version ISSN publishing location and year Distribution and sales Each faculty/unit takes responsibility for the distribution and sales of its own report series. According to the legal deposit copy law, free copies should be turned over to the University Library. In addition, an adequate number of copies should be given to the University Library for the Library collection and for document exchange with other institutions. The University Library arranges the official distribution of the reports. The Publication Committee recommends that the publications be sold in the Aalef bookstore. Furthermore, the Library will supply the Granum e-store with publications for sale. Orders placed to Granum will be delivered by Aalef as well. 2
