Practical matters Keys Apartment keys will be handed over at the ISS Security Services service point at Mikonkatu 17 A, Helsinki. The keys should be returned to the same place when the lease agreement ends. If a tenant loses the key and the lock to his or her room has to be replaced, the tenant will be responsible for paying subsequent costs. The maintenance company ISS Palvelut Oy, tel. 0200 155 00 is responsible for unlocking doors for locked-out tenants and will charge a separate fee for doing so. A service price list is on the notice board in stairwells. Outer doors and corridor doors The outer doors are closed round the clock. The airing balcony doors in all buildings and the corridor doors in building B are also kept locked. Fire safety Carelessness when preparing food causes unnecessary fire alarms at Domus. Wash the extraction fan's grease filter often enough with dishwashing liquid and warm water. Make sure that there is sufficient ventilation when you are cooking, and open a window if necessary. Tenants will be invoiced on a case-by-case basis for on-call visits caused by carelessness. The rescue department is entitled to charge for false alarms. Alarms caused by food preparation are deemed to be false alarms. Room furnishings Apartments in the B building are leased unfurnished. The refrigerator in the kitchen must be defrosted at certain intervals. Under no circumstances should you remove ice from the freezer box using a sharp implement. If you encounter problems when defrosting, contact the maintenance company. You will be responsible for reimbursing the housing association for any costs arising from damage to the refrigerator. You must defrost and wash the refrigerator when you move out. You may borrow a window handle from maintenance for washing the windows. Storage facilities There are no separate storage facilities for tenants' belongings at Domus Academica. There are a few mesh storage lockers in the shelter in building B, which are available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Tenants use these storage lockers at their own risk. Newspapers Domus Academica has a tenant subscription to Helsingin Sanomat. The newspaper can be read in the reading foyers on various floors, but may not be taken into tenants' own rooms. Ecocentre There is an ecocentre in the property's inner courtyard for waste sorting. It contains a compactor for mixed waste and separate containers for waste-to-energy waste, biowaste, paper, card, cardboard, metal, glass and batteries. Tenants can access the ecocentre using the same key as for the laundry facilities. We expect all tenants to sort their waste. 2
Laundry facilities There is a washing room and drying room in the basement of building B. The drying room contains a dryer and a mangle. The use of the appliances is currently free of charge. Follow the instructions and remember that once a washing program has ended, doors will not open until a delay of two minutes has passed. Do not try to force open the door before the two minutes has passed. If you notice that a machine is out of order, notify maintenance and place a note over the machine that says EPÄKUNNOSSA / OUT OF ORDER (these notes can be found in the laundry facilities). Saunas, code only works during sauna times The B-sauna is located in the basement of building B. Tenants' sauna times can be seen on the sauna doors and notice boards. Door code: 5864 Gym There is a small gym on the basement floor of building B. Access is via the laundry facilities. The gym equipment was procured via tenant contributions and the tenants themselves are responsible for maintaining the equipment and keeping the space clean. Bicycle storage There are covered and lockable bicycle racks behind building B for you to store your bicycle. The locked bicycle storage is in the same building as the ecocentre. You can access the bicycle storage using the same key that grants you access to the ecocentre and laundry facilities. Internet Domus Academica apartments feature a ready-to-use DNA Welho internet connection. The default speed is 10/10M. For further information, visit www.dna.fi. Please note! If your computer is continuously connected to the internet, it is very vulnerable to various attacks, so we recommend the use of anti-virus software and firewall programs. 3

Screw terminals and ceiling hooks are part of the apartment's furnishings! Notify the maintenance company of all things in need of repair when you move in. Report any faults/marks left by the previous tenant which do not require repair to your local office so that you are not invoiced for their repair when you move out! Faults/marks which are not attributed to natural wear and tear will be repaired at the tenant's expense. The best way to safeguard against damage or theft is to take out home insurance. 5
DOMUS ACADEMICA RULES 1 The tenant may not, even temporarily, hand over his or her lease or keys to another person, or to host guests if these cause disruption to roommates or other tenants. 2 Do not let anyone besides your own guests into the building. 3 Store bicycles in the bicycle storage. 4 Do not affix pictures, posters, etc. to the apartment walls. 5 No pets may be kept in the apartment (aquariums are the only exception). 6 Smoking is expressly forbidden in all indoor areas. 7 Avoid making loud noise in stairs, corridors and common rooms. There should be peace and quiet throughout the entire building between the hours of 11:00pm and 6:00am. 8 Tenants should take good care of their leased room and its furnishings. 9 Tenants should immediately notify maintenance of any faults they observe in rooms, furnishings, heat and water piping and electrical wiring. 10 Tenants must provide reimbursement for all damage to the building or its furnishings which they, or someone they have allowed into the building, has caused. 11 Tenants should take all their belongings with them when they move out. 12 Tenants should comply with these rules and any other rules issued later on by the lessor. 6
