4 Seinäjoki // Top Xxx 10 Seinäjoki 1. The Apila Library The latest gem in the City of Seinäjoki is the new main library building Apila, which was opened in August 2012. Even if you weren t so keen on borrowing the books, you could still pop in for a cup of coffee. Apila has been designed to be the library of today and tomorrow. The design of the building has been influenced by the Japanese art of origami. 2. The Aalto Administrative and Cultural Centre The Lakeuden Risti Church and Bell Tower provided the initial trigger for the unique Aalto Administrative and Cultural Centre. Over the years The City Hall, Main Library, Parish Centre, Government Office and Theatre were built in the vicinity of the Church. The centre comprised by these six buildings is an international design attraction. 3. Kalajärvi Recreational Area In the untainted and naturally beautiful scenic environment of Lake Kalajärvi you can enjoy the sun in the family-friendly beach or spend an active sports holiday going jogging, riding, fishing or playing volleyball, badminton or park golf. There are 340 pitches for caravans and holiday combos for rental right next to the beach and restaurants. 4. The Dudesons Activity Park The Dudesons Activity Park will be opened during the summer 2014 in a former industrial building in the district of Kapernaumi, few kilometers from the city centre. Activity Park s attractions will include a parkour area for all ages, a giant trampoline and a large air-slope. Even the smallest of adventurers can climb on nets and drive pedal cars. Also, an exercise-oriented daycare centre will be opened in connection with the Activity Park during this autumn. 5. Ruuhikoski Golf Course Robert Trent Jones Jr, who designed the golf course in the Ostrobothian river landscape in Ruuhikoski, is definitely the most internationally acclaimed golf course architect to have affected the Finnish golf scene. The Ruuhikoski Golf Course is the Jones family s first creation in Scandinavia and it offers an excellent setting for a golf experience for players from all levels.
Seinäjoki // Top 10 5 TOP 10 6. The Törnävä Museum The Provincial Museum of Southern Ostrobothnia and Törnävä Museum are situated in the attractive Törnävä Park. There is a traditional yard of an Ostrobothnian House, a Windmill, Knife Manufacturing Workshop and Pharmacy Museum. The Mihinä me ollahan? Exhibition at the stone-built cowshed Kivinavetta displays the history and development of Southern Ostrobothnia and Seinäjoki starting from the 1500s. 7. Rytmikorjaamo Rytmikorjaamo is the headquarters for creative forces in Seinäjoki. The building provides facilities for businesses, unique meeting rooms and a variety of spaces for holding parties, even a courtyard for 1000 guests. There are already over 30 creative field businesses, organizations or groups working in Rytmikorjaamo. Rytmikorjaamo is located in the renovated former old postal depot hall. The new title (transl. The Rhythm Garage ) relates to both the hall s past as a greasy vehicle garage and to the present role of getting the rhythms repaired and strengthening the local live music event productions and know-how. 8. Nature Trails of Jouppilanvuori Seek new physical experience e.g. in the accessible exercise trail in Jouppilanvuori area which is located within a distance of only 2 km from Seinäjoki city centre. Along the trail there are several tables and benches for resting. There are also three wheelchair-accessible earth closets and plug-ins for charging any electric mobility aid. 9. Wanha Markki Wanha Markki is an artists home located in Ylistaro. The owners, Heikki Laaksonen and Liisa-Cristiina Laaksonen, have renovated the old Ostrobothnian house back to the glory of the 1800 s. The buildings are mainly inhabited by senior animals. Hundreds of old animals that have been under the threat of being put down have found a new home via the animal retirement home. 10. Mallaskoski Brewery The Mallaskoski Brewery (Mallaskosken Panimo) is an homage to the handicraft of brewing. The brewery cherishes the Ostrobothian traditions in their brewing process.

The city theatre and summer stock theatres, along with the concerts of Seinäjoki City Orchestra, offer unforgettable moments of joy and other sentiments. The Seinäjoki cityscape is marked with architect Alvar Aalto s modern and bold view of the Administrative and Cultural Centre. The six buildings outline a tranquil harmony of the church, parish centre, city hall, library, government office and theatre. All buildings continue to be in daily use and the hand of Alvar Aalto is shown in every single detail of this holistic work of art. Door handles, lamps and furniture have been designed distinctively for each building as unique items. The new main library Apila has been designed to be a shared living room and work space for all its visitors. It is also a home for culture and education and it transforms easily to meet different needs and suit all purposes. Still, it is the books that are the main focus of a modern library. The daily newspapers can be read in a cozy café. Children are all fascinated by Piilomaa, the very own children s department with an imaginative design. People who are interested in the history and tales of arts and museums shall not be disappointed in Seinäjoki. They can observe the provincial peasant life through museums and exhibitions in the historical Museum Area of Törnävä. You can go to the swimming hall,the ice sports centre, the horse race track, the golf course or the skateboarding hall. Seinäjoki has also developed a nature trail route, which makes you feel good and provides safe accessible trails in nature. There are also lovely park and cultural areas in the Östermyra Manor Park in Törnävä and the campus area in the riverside. One favourite site for families is located in Peräseinäjoki. Kalajärvi Recreation Area can be ranked as the largest tourist site in Seinäjoki based on the number of visitors. It has four stars in the Scandinavian camping classification system and it has been successful in many national customer polls. The Kalajärvi Park Golf was elected as the best mini golf area in Finland in 2008.
