Pelletizing trials Autum 2008 Simo Paukkunen NKUAS simo.paukkunen@pkamk.fi
Raw material Basic information Logging residues from spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) dominant final cuttings, harvested in spring 2008, about 500 kg Whole pines (Pinus sylvestris L.) from first thinning, harvested in spring 2008, about 500 kg Whole birches from first thinnings, harvested in spring 2008, about 1000 kg (was delivered to SLU,Umeå, Sweden) Week 34 the raw material was chipped and packed in Eno (Eno Energy cooperation) and delivered to Saarijärvi (and Umeå) for drying
Basic information
Drying The raw material was dried 25.8.2008 2.9.2008 in Saarijärvi, Bioenergy-center (Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences,JUA) Weight and moisture Spruce Before drying: 555 kg, 45 % After drying: 331 kg, 12 % Pine Before drying: 581 kg, 46 % After drying: 348 kg, 15 % About 750 kwh energy was used for drying
Pelletizing in Laitila (Lokapelletti LTD) 4.9 5.9.2008 Dry chips were milled by using hammermil (tractor powered, 10 mm sieve) Little problems with sieve
Milled material (spruce left, pine right)
Pelletizing in Laitila (Lokapelletti LTD) 4.9 5.9.2008 Pelletpress made by Konepaja M. Pappinen Horisontal ring die, 40 mm press kanal, 70 mm die 15 kw electric motor
