The main themes of the MANU-project Farmvisits to pupils in cooperation between farms and schools -model: school day on the farm Farmbased learning - a farm as a learning environment To see the way of food from the field to the table -local food bath Sustainable food production to promote the cooperation between farmers, rural enterprises and trade in the local food production
The main target group of the Manu-project and the education system in Finland Main target groups of the the MANU-project are 14-15-16-years old pupils (on the upper classes; 7 to 9) at the comprehensive schools in the basic education

Cooperation in the MANU-project The MANU-project have a wide cooperation; schools, farmers, bakery, dairy and local branches. We started in september 2012 with 1 person and from january 2013 we continued with 2 persons working in the project (project manager and project officer) And we have now in the cooperation: 11 communes municipal corporations out of all 13 has participated to the project 17 comprehensive schools (upper classes) out of all 22 schools are in the project Pupil councellors at schools to arrange farmvisits Teachers of the school classes 23 cooperation farms,where over 30 farmers and femail farmers volunteers in farmers local units (local MTK )

Preparations before the farmvisits (1/3) Contact to the school by mail or phone and introduce MANUproject Meeting at the school; curriculum Schedule meetings, Curriculum utilization Contact to the co-farmer in that commun where the school is and tell about the MANU-model of Farmbased learning 1. First step is that before the farmvisit the farmer goes to school to tell the pupils about his farm and how it works and about local food 2. Second step is that the school class visits the farm of that farmer
Preparations before the farmvisits (2/3) To plan the visit programme on the farm with the school and the farm farmer Discuss with teachers and the farmer the ways to open the definition of the sustainable development in the context of the farmvisit when you plan with the school and with the farm, so it works The farmers visit the school before the pupils schoolday on the farm from MANU-project project officer sends readymade material information with memorystick to the farmer before he she visits the school.
