3 Family day care / childminders and group family day care Family day care refers to childminders who work alone in their own home and look after four to five children. In group family day care two or three childminders work together in premises owned by the municipality. Younger children are often placed with childminders. There are integrated special needs groups in Lajo, Lensu, Nummi, Ota and Kaivopuisto day care centres with specially trained SEN teachers in charge. SEN teachers also work in Rinkeli and Sinilintu. SEN co-ordinators There are four SEN co-ordinators in Rauma who co-ordinate the services for children with SEN in day care and pre-school education. The SEN co-ordinators support the work with families, early childhood education staff and other agencies. The main focus of the family activities is to encourage and give ideas and opportunities for parents to enjoy activities with their children. Each family participates in the activities once a week. The fee for the semester is calculated according to the participation. 4 How to apply for municipal day care Families can apply for full-time or part-time care place for their child at any time of the year. If day care is needed because of a parent s employment or vocational training, the town will provide a day care place within two weeks of the application. In other cases a place will be allocated within four months. Application forms are available from day care centres, the Communication Service Point Pyyrman at the Town Hall (Valtakatu 2) or directly from our office. An electronic application form can be found from our website rauma.fi/lomakepalvelu. For further information on vacant care places and the application process please contact our Area Managers or the Family Childcare Coordinators. Their contact information can be found in this brochure. Families with 2 3 year old children who do not require a full-time day care place because of parents employment or vocational studies, are encouraged to use the open early childhood education services (see more under Open early childhood education and organized play). Pre-school education Six-year old children can take part in pre-school education free of charge and also receive day care. Pre-school education is arranged in different day care centres and schools in Rauma. Applications are taken in January February; the exact dates are announced in local newspapers and on our website. Benefits for childcare Private care assistance and its municipal supplement Families that use private childcare are eligible to apply for private care assistance (yksityisen hoidon tuki). The assistance is payable for each eligible child in the family. The support consists of two parts: a monthly care allowance and an income-related care supplement. The allowance is paid directly to the private childcare service provider. Private care assistance's municipal supplement (yksityisen hoidon tuen kuntalisä) is paid to families who receive private care assistance, need day care for over 25 hours a week, live in Rauma and use the services of one our private childcare providers. Home care assistance and its municipal supplement Home care assistance (lapsen kotihoidon tuki) is paid to families that have an under 3-year old child who is not in municipal day care. The assistance is also paid for the family s other children who are not yet in school and do not attend municipal day care. The assistance can be paid from the end of the parental allowance until the youngest child turns three. Home care assistance's municipal supplement (kotihoidon tuen kuntalisä) is 200 per family in Rauma. It is paid by the municipality to families - that receive home care assistance - where a parent/carer continues to look after his/her under school-aged children at home after the parental allowance period - have at least three under school-aged children and the youngest child is under 3 years old OR have an under 3-year old child who would require child care during night or weekends because of parents shift work. Partial care allowance KELA pays partial care allowance (osittainen hoitoraha) for a parent with an under 3-year old child if the parent has reduced his/her work hours to 30 hours a week or less so that less childcare is needed outside the family.
