13 FIELD HOCKEY JOHNSON GARNERS ALL-AMERICA ACCOLADES This past fall, Johnson became the 14th All-American in program history when the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its teams. She is the first Buckeye to be so honored since Jenn Sciulli took home first team honors in I am honored and humbled to be on the All-America team, said Johnson. When you look at the other names on the list, it makes you realize just how special it is. I ve been blessed with outstanding teammates and coaches at Ohio State, and without them none of this would be possible. I couldn t have asked for a better experience wearing the Scarlet and Gray and this is certainly a great way to end my career. Johnson will graduate with her name prominent throughout the Ohio State record book, finishing 12th all-time in points with 93 (36 goals, 21 assists), 10th in goals and 13th in assists. Her career resume includes three All-Big Ten honors and three All-Region selections. After leading the Buckeyes in assists last year with 11, Johnson, a Dayton, Ohio native and Oakwood High School graduate, set a career high this past fall with 12 goals. She had four multi-goal games, including fivepoint performances against Ball State, Ohio and Iowa. In Ohio State s regular season home finale, she collected the second hat trick of her career with a three-goal, one assist effort in a 6-3 win over California. On Sept. 15, she was named the Big Ten s Offensive Player of the Week and also played in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game on Nov. 21. Johnson ranked fourth in the Big Ten in both goals (12) and goals per game (0.67). She was also fifth in total points (29) and points per game (1.61). She registered multiple points in eight games this year, and the Buckeyes were 7-1 in those contests. JOHNSON, ROYCE MAKE ALL-REGION TEAM A pair of Buckeye seniors Peanut Johnson and Emma Royce earned Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region honors, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced in November. Johnson earned first team honors while Royce was selected to the second team. After leading the Buckeyes in assists last year with 11, Johnson, a Dayton, Ohio native and Oakwood High School graduate, set a career high this past fall with 12 goals. She registered multiple points in eight games this year, and the Buckeyes were 7-1 in those contests. Royce, a two-time team captain, earns her first career all-region honor. A mainstay in the defensive backfield, she has started 72 of 73 career games. This year she had four goals and five assists for 13 points to go along with a defensive save. The London, England native was largely responsible for leading a defense that had three shutouts to its credit and has allowed 14 less goals than last year. In a 3-0 win against Rutgers last month, Royce did a little bit of everything with one goal, one assist and one defensive save. In her career, she finished with 13 goals, 12 assists, one game-winning goal, two penalty stroke goals and one defensive save. Royce was selected as an alternate for the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game. TRIO OF BUCKEYES EARN ALL-BIG TEN HONORS Three members of the Ohio State field hockey team seniors Peanut Johnson and Emma Royce along with sophomore Maddy Humphrey earned All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced in November. Johnson earned first team honors while Royce and Humphrey were selected to the second team. Sydney Stype, a fifth-year senior goalkeeper from nearby Upper Arlington, is Ohio State s Sportsmanship Award honoree. Stype is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten and four-time NFHCA National academic Squad selection. Last year, she earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades for having a grade-point average or 3.70 or better during the academic year. TWELVE NAMED TO ZAG FIELD HOCKEY/NFHCA DIVISION I NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD The Ohio State field hockey program, under the direction of head coach Anne Wilkinson, placed 12 players on the ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. It marks the 10th-consecutive season the Buckeyes have had nine or more members named to the national academic list. In addition, the Buckeyes were recognized by ZAK Field Hockey and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association with the National Academic Team Award for sporting a team grade-point average above 3.0. Senior Carter Brown was a finalist for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award, one of two Big Ten representatives among the final 10. Senior Robby Haus was voted the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and junior Jake Withers was selected as the Big Ten Specialist of the Year. Haus was the third Buckeye to earn a league defensive player of the year award in the last five years, joining Matt Kawamoto (2011) and Joe Meuer (2014) who both were recognized by the ECAC. In all, Ohio State has now garnered eight conference player of the year awards since Withers, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, led the Big Ten and was 13th nationally in faceoff winning percentage, winning 60.7 percent of his draws (184-of-303). He was fifth in the NCAA and first among Big Ten players with 7.33 groundballs per game. Academically, the Buckeyes had one of the most successful years in recent history, with 32 student-athletes posting a 3.0 or better grade point average during the spring semester, helping the team to a gpa for the spring. For the year, the squad combined for a gpa. At spring commencement, six 2016 seniors earned their degrees -- Carter Brown (finance), Jarret Hassfeld (family resource management), Robby Haus (finance), Ryan Hunter (communication), Chris Mahoney (family resource management) and Tyler Pfister (communication). At the annual Ohio State Scholar-Athlete Dinner in late March, 24 members of the program were recognized. The 11 wins by the Buckeyes marked the third consecutive season with at least 10 wins, a program first. Despite posting 11 wins and two wins over ranked teams, Ohio State narrowly missed out on its third consecutive NCAA tournament, going 3-2 in one-goal games. Ohio State knocked off two ranked teams in No. 18 JHU and No. 9 Penn State. The Buckeyes opened the season 11-1, the best start to a season in program history. Ohio State enjoyed a nine-game winning streak during the regular season, the longest streak in program history. That streak included wins over No. 18 Johns Hopkins and No. 9 Penn State, catapulting the Buckeyes to No. 8 in the Inside Lacrosse Top 20 poll in early April, the highest ranking in program history. Three Buckeyes earned All-Big Ten conference honors: senior Cian Dabrowski, junior Christina Turner and sophomore Shannon Rosati. 46 SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING The Ohio State Synchronized Swimming team has become accustomed to success and the season was no exception. Seven victories, eight All- Americans, three national champions and a runner-up finish at the US Collegiate Championships are just some of the highlights. The Buckeyes started the year by sweeping the competition at both the OSU Invitational and the Jessica Beck Memorial meets. That was followed by a great weekend in Virginia with two more victories at Richmond and William & Mary. A trip to Boston produced seven more first or second place finishes and the regular season was capped by sweeping first and second in every event in a dominating performance at the North Regional Championships. The US Collegiate Championships in Florida saw three Buckeyes walk away as national champions. Junior Emma Baranski never lost a solo competition this season and became the first Buckeye since 2012 to win a solo national title. She also finished runner-up in the duet with sophomore Monica Velazquez-Stiak and the two of them went on to share the event s High Point Award. Junior Elizabeth Davidson claimed the national title in the A Technical event while Stephanie Thielemann took home the title in the B Figures. A total of eight Buckeyes were named US Collegiate All-Americans, the most of any school in the country.
